Gamestop reprinting copies of Xenoblade as new Empty Gamestop reprinting copies of Xenoblade as new

Post by Winters Thief Zero Tue Aug 13, 2013 3:24 pm

Recently, many Gamestop stores have had copies of Xenoblade Chronicles marked as 'used' for the price of $89.99. Due to the game being so rare, it would only make sense to have such a high price. But apparently, they aren't really used.

Gamestop has been accused of reprinting copies of Xenoblade and selling them as used, when really they have been (assumedly) illegally reprinted and are not used copies of the game.

I don't blame them for wanting money, but this must be illegal...

Gamestop has always overpriced there games.
$90 for a used one. I wander what the price would be if they marked it as new.
I try not going to Gamestop because even with there new games it looks like someone opened the game and played it and sealed the game back up.

    @Gameguy
It would probably be like $200 if it were new. XD Of course, they wouldn't mark it as new just due to the fact that they don't want anyone to know that they're illegally reprinting copies.

    So you own it then?

Cool, the inside of the case should be posted as well, because apparently these fake Gamestop copies have the Nintendo logo on the inside rather than the Wii logo like all other Wii games have...but it could be that the Nintendo logo is on the official case.

Well according to KOTAKU; Gamestop has responded as thus:

"GameStop regularly receives feedback from our PowerUp members regarding old titles they would us like to bring back, such as vintage games like Xenoblade Chronicles. We were recently able to source a limited number of copies of this title to carry in our stores and online.

In fact, we have sourced several more vintage titles that we will be hitting stores in the coming months, including Metroid Prime Trilogy.

As always, our pricing for these games is competitive and is based on current market value driven by supply and demand. PowerUp Pro members always receive a 10% discount and earn PUR points on pre-owned purchases.
    "source

It's not that the people who work for Gamestop are bad impo; but the company as a whole needs to go down.. As this whole nonsense just smells of something fishy going on some where.

@ Queen: Yes please post up pics of your copy asap. Very Happy

Yeah because thousands of copies is totally a 'limited number' that they were just randomly able to track down...

Also, what competition do they have when in the US, there are pretty much no other game stores around.

They were so rare that Gamestop used a different box for the game and made the game double the price for the most part. Laughing

That's not really true Zero since you can find games at BestBuy, Frys, Walmart, Target, Casco and Sam's Club in the US. There are also many of places you can buy games online.

Yeah I know that, but Gamestop is really the only game-specific store around, obviously Wal-Mart isn't a game store, despite having games you can purchase there.

Well here's the pictures I promised of my 'official' copy of Xenoblade:
    My copy of the game:

Also Gamestop can't sell copies they made themselves; because doing that kind of thing is very much illegal. ;3

I went to Gamestop 2 days ago, and looked inside the cases to see whether or not they were different from other cases. The Xenonlade and Metroid Prime Trilogy cases has the Nintendo logo rather than the Wii logo, while the cases for the 4 other games I looked inside had the Wii logo. Queen's copy ALSO has the Wii logo...

That doesn't necessarily mean they're fake just due to that, but the cases at the least are.

And yes it is illegal Queen, but that doesn't mean they can't do it.
