Nintendo to buy Atlus? UPDATE: SEGA buys Atlus

“Nintendo could be shaping up to purchase Atlus after their parent company hit serious financial trouble, according to a rumour. It has been previously reported that Index Corporation is moving to sell off its subsidiaries in an auction taking place on July 28, with Atlus as one of them. But a new report from International Digital Times suggests that Nintendo could be a forerunner into acquiring the Shin Megami Tensei developer, due to both companies working closely together on new titles such as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and the recently released Shin Megami Tensei IV. Unless I misunderstood this info, Nintendo is going to be in charge of SMT? As in...they're going to be developing it in partner with the developers from Atlus(who make the games)?

Mind you, I've only played the Persona series but it'll be a huge blow if what I said is the case.

But...if it's only a rumor... I pray it isn't true.

Atlus is one of my favorite companies in terms of video games.

Yeah, with Shin Megami Tensei IV on 3DS, and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, it does seem they're working closely together.

Also, Unknown Entity, I can certainly see Persona 5 being a Wii U exclusive, and of course it will be if Nintendo buys out Atlus.

Really? You think Nintendo is really going to muck about in Altus's affairs? I mean they already bought Beyonetta from SEGA & it's still an M rated title. If anything I think Nintendo will make Atlus better; just look at the games Altus has already it fits in perfectly with everything else Nintendo is doing already.. Seriously this is the second forum I've been to where most of the 'Atlus fans' think that Nintendo is going to screw Atlus up if Nintendo decides to buy them up with out even considering the fact that Nintendo is a good company and that other people will be able to keep their jobs on top of many great franchises and titles that could possibly become part of the Nintendo brand; at least impo.

Hey I never said they would make it terrible, it'd be interesting to see what they'd do with a Wii U title. Since I really only have Nintendo consoles, it would give me a chance to actually try the Persona series as well.

Not sure about Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem though, sounds weird.

Well I didn't mean you specifically Zero. XD I just mean in general. =p I have never played the Shin Megami Tensei series because I see it as an action game & not an JRPG as most people have been calling it. <.<; It's not the kind of game that has really gotten me interested into it. I've heard good things about it but the whole series just comes off the wrong way to me.. <.<;

Any who.. I hope Nintendo does acquire Altus due to the fact I had no plans to get a PS4 which is usually where the Disgaea series has been on since the PS2 days.

Oh. I have never played the Shin Megami Tensei series either, but it looks like an JRPG to me Queen, lol. Even if I don't purchase any games in the future from Atlus, I still hope Nintendo decides to buy them out, and I could then still play the games.

It seems even if it weren't to happen, Atlus is working closely with Nintendo now anyway.

I would have to say that Nintendo is likely to buy Altus do to how close they been working with them lately. I mean this guy was just saying how likely it was and everyone was telling him there's no way Nintendo could buy Altus since it will ruin the games.  
It's like they always complain about something. So if Altus is bought be Nintendo expect many angry fans to talk negative about Nintendo and Altus.

To be honest I wouldn't mind this, as long as the groups creating the games still have their own full control over the games, and that the games are just put on Nintendo consoles. I mean if all of Atlus' games were on Nintendo now it wouldn't be the worst thing ever, just as long as the games stay the same.

Well except in the case of SMT X FE, they would be. I mean, Nintendo isn't working with them on the games anyway, it's just Atlus, so the games would be the same anyway, just on Nintendo consoles instead of Playstation or whatever else they would have the games on.

So would Shin Megami Tensei be considered a Nintendo franchise if they bought Atlus then?

No? I wouldn't say so at least, because most other games are on Playstation. Even if Nintendo does buy Atlus, the games are Atlus games, so I don't think they'd be considered 'Nintendo games' despite only being available on Nintendo consoles.

It would be if there was only one SMT game and it was only on a Nintendo console but otherwise it wouldn't.
I hope they do but Atlus though, that would screw Sony and everyone else.

But it'd be a nice change in pace, seeing Persona 5 as a Wii U exclusive, among their other games, rather than only people with a Playstation being able to play the majority of their titles developed.

But who knows, Nintendo might not be buying Atlus.
