What are you thoughts on backwards compatibility?

Personally, I love having backwards compatibility with previous game consoles as an extra feature. However, it's not something that I absolutely have to have (well, granted I own the previous console) but it is a nice feature, so I don't see why it seems to be going away. Xbone and PS4 don't have it, and even though the Wii U does, for all we know it could be gone from all consoles next generation. I hope not though.

Tbh; the only reason I bought a Wii U is because it was backwards compatible. If the PS4, was say backwards compatible I'd still be saving back up enough cash to get one so I could play PS3/PS4 games on it. Razz Otherwise; to quote Yahtzee from the Escapist; "No matter how good any of the games are; it isn't worth buying a console that isn't backwards compatible."

It really annoyed me how PS3 had backward compatibility then then didn't, I love it, even if it only goes back one generation of console, it's still always nice to have the option of playing an older game on the same console of the current gen, and it's a lot less of a hassle cord wise.

I don't really care much about about Backwards Compatibility since I buy the last gen system before the modern day one. I think it will be gone by the 9th gen though since the systems will likely have lots of memory space by then to download all of the classic game.

^ Yeah, but I kind of hate that, you shouldn't really have to download games for a price if you already own them. I mean, yeah you could just play it on the original console, but it does get annoying to do that.

I don't understand why it seems to be going away myself. I would have thought it was a good way to tide gamers over until the range of games available on the newer console has had time to build up?

^ Yeah, and it is. The reason may be due to how difficult it is to allow for backwards compatibility in a console. However, the consoles removing it had backwards compatibility on the previous console, so there should be no reason why they would remove that feature. (probably so that they can continue to make money off of the previous console for a little while longer Razz) I'm just glad Wii U has it since it's the only console I own for this generation.

It's nice if the console is backwards compatible, but if it isn't it doesn't usually determine if I'm going to get it. I'm only being picky about getting a PS4 because I don't honestly see paying the $400. dollar price tag for what I consider to be an overly priced gaming pc. Razz
