    amiibo - Amiibo Amiibo_1

Basically, what Nintendo are calling "Amiibo" are these NFC figures they've been talking about for awhile. They are of different characters, and are confirmed to be compatible with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & Nintendo 3DS, Yoshi's Woolly World, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Kirby & the Rainbow Curse.

    Here's a video:

If they came with games, maybe I'd use them.

I'd hope they're bundled, if not, then they must not really play a big part in any games. (although at the same time that's kind of a good thing...) I almost feel like they won't be bundled though, since they can each be used for multiple games, at least 5 games are confirmed to use them so far, as well as others.

I think this might be a new way to sell DLC for Mario Kart 8 since some are being made for it and maybe the Smash Wii u bundle will come with a few.

Post by Winters Thief Zero Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:56 pm

Here's some new info on the Amiibo:

    - take the Mario amiibo and use it in Smash Bros. and other games that Mario appears in
    - use the Smash Bros. Mario figure in Mario Kart 8
    - use the same Mario figure in Mario Party 10
    - Nintendo is looking at having all of the figures usable across a lot of Nintendo titles
    - the data within the Amiibo is split up between particular games and the basic info of what character the figurine is
    - this is how data is stored in the figure
    - the Smash Bros. Mario Amiibo will be act as a simple Mario figure in other games
    - considering how they can implement Mii designs into an Amiibo
    - Mr. Miyamoto already has an Amiibo based off his Mii
    - considering custom Miis
    - plan is to have an Amiibo for every Smash Bros. character
    - probably won't prepare an Amiibo for every IP
    - probably will prepare a more standard Mario family line of amiibo characters
    - these could also work with Mario Party 10 or potentially with Mario Kart 8
    - haven't decided what will happen when you put the Smash Bros. Star Fox amiibo on the GamePad yet
    - Miyamoto wants an Arwing amiibo
    - Amiibo designs have no size restrictions, so they could make giant ones
    - planning for the Amiibo line to continue on after 3DS/Wii U to Nintendo's next platforms

    Source

An Arwing Amiibo would be pretty cool, I wonder how it would be used though. And I want a giant Amiibo. I wish they'd give pricing info on them though, I'm not buying them for $20 each. Razz I hope they're $10 or less.

^ Exactly, even if these are used in many games, I don't think it's really worth $20. I wish I had posted it, but I do think Reggie said in an interview they'd be around $10 each, so that's good enough for me.

Reggie said that they would between $10 and $15 for most of them.

Also here's some more info about Amilbo.

Reggie wrote:One, we wanted to be thoughtful in our approach. In our view, going down this path you have to have differentiation. Second, we wanted to make sure that we would launch the concept with a big franchise, and certainly Smash (Bros.) fits that bill. Smash is really perfect. All the various characters, the gameplay that Mr. Sakurai has created is fantastic. So for us it was really making sure we had the right approach and the right method to launch it.

We will continue to make new figures available through the balance of holiday 2014 and then we're going to continuously launch new figures throughout 2015. For us, we're not putting a numerical limit on how many varied figures we can launch. Our potential catalog of figures in the space is quite broad.

Even a figure like Marth, which, from a broad population, may not be well known but for that Smash playing audience, they know Marth. A lot of them enjoy playing as Marth. And then we believe that, given the lineup of figures, we're going to have a more diverse ownership base, not only male and female (because of Peach and Yoshi that appeal to girls) but also from an aging up standpoint because people are going to want to collect Samus. You're going to have people who want to collect Link, all these fantastic characters. So we think our footprint is going to be much larger than what the other people in this space have been able to accomplish.

What I would tell you is that we do believe the cross-game play is a big advantage for us and having a Mario figure that could be potentially used in not only Smash Bros. but also in Mario Kart as well as in Mario Party 10. We think that's a pretty strong competitive advantage.

The specifics of the gameplay will be unique to the game, and it is really up to the developer to program. So you will have a developer create a mechanism like what Mr. Sakurai is doing, where it really is a leveling up mechanic. And you'll have other developers taking different approaches. You might have a developer decide, you know what, I want to reward someone who has purchased multiple Mario games, and that really has given Mario uber powers. That's the way he'll program it."

I still want to know what they do in other games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi Woolly World. I also don't understand how Marth is not well known since mostly everyone has known him since Melee.  Face Palm!

Well maybe he was just hinting at Marth's Amiibo being used in other non-Fire Emblem games or something? I'll wait and see how the other games use Amiibo before deciding if I want to get any of them.

If I where to get one of the 4 newly reveled ones it would be the Luigi one since it would be the one used the most for other games.

I'd get that Little Mac one, I always liked that artwork for Smash Bros. ever since they revealed he would be in the game. (hopefully if I do get it, there's a Punch-Out!! Wii U too Razz)

Woah, what happened? The new versions look way worse than the original models. Why did they make that little clear stick thing yellow and make it so much thicker? It looks horrible. Also, Peach isn't as detailed.
