Obviously, online multiplayer is a big deal now. (well, it has been for awhile at this point...) Do you think that it's necessary for all multiplayer games to include online multiplayer as an option?
Personally, I think it depends on the game. When a game is mostly made for single-player, but simply includes a multiplayer mode, it's most likely to be lackluster and small anyway, so I don't really think it needs online play. But when a game is specifically designed with multiplayer in mind, I see absolutely no reason not to include it. I mean, it's 2014, it can't be difficult to do. While I can still enjoy a game like that just fine even without the online, it adds so much more. For example, I probably would have stopped playing Mario Kart 8 quite some time ago if it didn't have an online mode, but I still play it pretty often because it does.
