Would you be disappointed if Nintendo revealed a brand new Metroid game for Wii U...but it ended up being a 2D Metroid game?

Personally, I wouldn't be disappointed AT ALL. I love the 2D Metroid games, and although Metroid Prime is great, I wouldn't really mind a 2D Metroid game, even if it is on Wii U. I mean, they could even have it be 2D on the TV, and first-person through Samus' suit on the Gamepad. As long as there is a Metroid Wii U, I really don't care whether it's 2D or 3D.

I won't be dissapointed. Why would I, considering the Kirby console games are all released in 2D?

It would depend on how it's branded, like a new Metroid game I'd expect it to be 2D, but if it was labelled as a Prime game and was 2D, then I'd be a little disappointed.
