[RUMOR] Paper Mario Wii U On the Way?

Similar to the ZombiU rumor, but this one is much more likely to be true. There have been several rumors passed around the past couple days relating to a possible announcement for a new Paper Mario game on Wii U. (I actually think if it's real, they will be announcing it tomorrow at the VGAs)

First, Nintendo supposedly posted something on Twitter, removing it within a minute:



That's the most likely one to be true, but Amazon also put up a listing for "Paper Mario (RPG)" on Wii U earlier today. Also, a rumor is going around that Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem has been cancelled due to difficult development and tension surrounding the story of the game. This would leave Intelligent Systems with more time to work on another Wii U game instead.

Personally, I'd be happy with a new Paper Mario game, as long as it doesn't have that sticker mechanic. On the other hand, I was really looking forward to Shin Megami X Fire Emblem, so I'm really hoping that rumor isn't true. :/

One of Nintendo's social media guys just got fired. XD

This basically just tells us its coming.
I just don't want those stickers back.

I'd be excited for it if it's true, but considering I wasn't a fan of Sticker Star, I guess I'll have to wait a bit for them to confirm and maybe show some more information on it.

Wow I didn't expect one so soon if it's true. I don't really care for Stick Star but I would like if it returned to either the first two Paper Mario gameplay or Super Paper Mario's. Looking forward to more information on this.

I think that was a fake Nintendo of America that posted that. I still think a new Paper Mario is in the works even if Reggie does not reveal it at VGA. Since next year will mark 15 years since the 1st game released.

It wouldn't surprise me to see that a new Wii U Paper Mario game releases sometime in 2015 or 2016. Usually there's been one released for each console generation thus far.

^ Yep, there's been a Paper Mario game released on every home console since N64, so I also wouldn't be surprised. Remember, the original game and TTYD were released pretty late into each of their consoles' lives, so I think we can still expect it to come even if it's not announced tonight or even next year.

I honestly would embrace the idea of a new Paper Mario game as long as it isn't anything remotely similar to Sticker Star. *shudder*

Sticker Star could have been interesting as its own thing; however, to be placed alongside the other great titles in the Paper Mario series - it definitely was a rather underwhelming installment personally. I really want to see the return of true partner characters and the battle system to be more similar to the first two games.

I still don't get the hate for Sicker Star.. Yea it was a new idea & yea not every one liked it. But I personally don't really understand the hate for it cause I liked it.. I liked the change & I liked the challenge. <.<; *Sigh* Still a new Wii U Paper Mario releasing soon would be a no brainer any way.

^ I didn't find there to be any real "challenge" as you say personally, as the bosses (pretty much the only battles even required to be fought through the game) only make you find a big sticker that it's weak to and use it to let you defeat them very easily. (and without that sticker they're near impossible >_>) I just found the battle system to be flawed due to it's reliance on stickers. Fighting battles gives you coins, no experience. So if you get no experience, all you're doing by fighting them is wasting stickers. And it had pretty much no storyline, as compared to previous Paper Mario games with fairly great plots. (well, compared to other Mario games anyway) Just my opinion, I'm glad at least someone enjoyed the game though. ^^

Anyway, I guess this isn't the Sticker Star thread. I also think it's pretty much a no-brainer, but Nintendo doesn't always go the obvious path with the games they make sometimes, so who knows.

I wouldn't hate Sticker Star if it was its own game or something separate from the Paper Mario series. However, because it was within the Paper Mario series, it kinda let down a lot of PM fans (including myself) especially those who got excited by the possibility of having partner and the original RPG system back from the original E3 trailer. The chainchomp, the colourful Mario world, and even the battles looked promising at first. 

However, when it was completely changed up in the final product - it just didn't feel like a traditional Paper Mario game anymore. On its own, I'll admit - it's a highly creative game and it definitely shows off the creativity of art which I love. However, as a "Paper Mario" game (especially as the one after Super Paper Mario which was considered controversial in comparison to the first two PM games), many just felt let down. The worlds suddenly just became a sudden copy-paste from the NSMB titles too which was a bit uninspired after the overflow of NSMB games at the time.

Don't get me wrong - I don't hate Sticker Star. I just would rather see Paper Mario return to its roots as it was one of the rare instances in which a Mario game could actually get some developed characters and plots. I absolutely loved TTYD, and I'd love to see a PM title as expanded as that one again.
