Here is the opening for the Wii U version and the game releases on June 24th.

The game looks pretty nice even if the characters are still locked to 1 event.

The Wii U characters are locked to certain events as well?
That sucks, but the game is still a launch day buy for me.

Is there enough in the London one to get even get it, or is it okay to be skipped and just get this one?

^Depends on the price you can find for the London one.
It was a great game, the London Party mode added something quite fun, and the sports were well done.

While I think the past characters are playable in all events since Wario can be seen in BMX and a good number of characters can play the Rugby Sevens event. On the other hand the intro only showed the events the newcomers are locked behind in the 3DS version.

It depends on what your looking for. You might be better off waiting for Rio since the events seems to be better and based on the opening it seems like the Wii U version will also have a story mode.
