Nintendo's biggest first-party developers, Nintendo Entertainment & Analysis Development Division (EAD), and Nintendo Software Planning & Development Division (SPD), are merging.
Their new name is, Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development Division, possibly known as Nintendo EPD.
This is part of their restucturing,
Nintendo wrote:We will integrate personnel who are involved in the development of software for Nintendo platforms and smart devices in addition to work associated with effective utilization of character IP, and in order to create a structure that operates efficiently and rapidly, the Entertainment Analysis & Development Division and the Software Planning & Development Division will be consolidated into the newly established Entertainment Planning & Development Division.
SPD President Shinya Takahashi will be the General Manager.
Here is a list of games EAD has developed, and a list of games SPD has developed.

I think this makes a lot of sense, and it certainly will allow them to share ideas, it could allow for more creativity.

I will miss when the one group when it was called EAD. I'm not entirely sure what could happen when these two merge to become one large group but it could be a splendid idea. These are some huge changes upcoming, for better or worse, I'm hoping this goes well and we can see an improvement in future games. I'd like to see this merge work wonderfully.

EAD are still the ones making the games at Nintendo. SPD pretty much just helps out the second party studios for the most part. Nintendo might have just wanted everything in one place though so that the SPD place can be sold off.

    ^Why would they do that?
SPD is headquartered where EAD is as far as I know, that's nothing what Nintendo thought of here.
