I'm not placing this under "rumors" because I was informed by a Gamestop employee just today when trying to trade in an amiibo figure that they are no longer taking them. Why? Because the Switch will NOT support the amiibo figures. (The words of the employee not mine.)

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
Umm.. It doesn't confirm 100% that the Switch will support amiibo; only that if a game supports it the console will support it. BUT if you look at how many games are releasing for the Switch with amiibo compatibility is for BotW on the WiiU.
Otherwise, why would Gamestop stop taking in amiibo in as trade unless they're still being produced/sold way after the Switch has been released? Thus, logic dictates the conclusion.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
You have a point there in your second post, but at the same time I would wait for official confirmation on this from Nintendo, because a lot of times representatives from game stores and other locations don't really know what they're talking about. I'd be kind of surprised if Nintendo ended the Amiibo line now, if Switch doesn't support Amiibo I doubt they will continue releasing them.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
Never trust those Gamestop workers 100%. If anything Gamestop is likely just removing the pre-owned section for toys to life and that's why they won't take in any amiibo. We see the Mario line in the Switch trailer when Super Mario Switch is being played on the TV and until Nintendo comes out and tells everyone the Switch won't support amiibo then we won't know for sure.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
Well, all I know is what the conclusion was the moment I was told that Gamestop won't be taking in anymore amiibo. Atmo, all I see is amiibo support on both the Wii U & 3DS on Nintendo's website. I've yet to see any support on the Switch. With so many 'toys to life' games going the way of the dodo, it's only going to be a matter of time before the amiibo are phased out I'm sure. Still, we'll see in about a month when the next Direct air's showing us more information about the upcoming Switch.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
To be fair, we hardly know anything about the Switch. I imagine they have more interesting things to talk about than amiibo support.
I'm about 10000000% positive switch will support amiibo.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
While NFC figures do seem to slowly phasing out, I think the amiibo are still going strong, not as strong as they were at launch, but they still pretty good. I'd be surprised if the Switch didn't support them. Despite their abhorrent limited supply of a huge majority of the amiibo and the NES Classic, I believe the limited stock has likely been deliberate. They like to lock things behind these darn figures which only makes them more desirable. I don't see why they would stop now with the Switch. As much as I like these figures and wish to collect all the Zelda ones (Where the heck is my Toadette amiibo?), they've done some rather bad things with them.
The GameStop may have been misinformed about it, or they no longer want preowned amiibo. Perhaps they just want mint condition ones. The 3DS will likely be supporting amiibo for as long as it is around, the Switch can certainly not support them, they probably wouldn't lose too much as long as the 3DS still supports them. There doesn't seem to be any kind of reader on the Switch unless it does it like the New 3DS with the screen.

Re: Switch won't support amiibo.
Well my question remains: why? Why stop taking in preowned amiibo if Gamestop's STILL making money? If amiibo are as popular as every one here is saying they are, then why only take amiibo in the box still? I'd think if they still took amiibo in, (box or not) he would have told me. But he said they can still sell them, but they just refuse to take them in as trade.
Atmo; the only way I can see the Switch even being compatible with amiibo at this juncture (if at all) is to purchase a NFC reader for it. Cause otherwise, I personally just don't see Nintendo supporting amiibo past the WiiU/3DS.
