Nintendo Spotlight headlines Nintendo's E3 events Empty Nintendo Spotlight headlines Nintendo's E3 events

    Post by Gameguy1996 Thu May 11, 2017 8:54 am

It seems like the Nintendo Digital Event will be changed to Nintendo Spotlight, tournaments for ARMS and Splatoon 2 will be held and the Nintendo Treehouse live returns once again.

PR Email wrote:REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As part of Nintendo’s plan to deliver news about upcoming games all throughout the year, the company will provide a packed week of activities at the E3 video game show, which runs from June 13 to June 15 in Los Angeles. Proceedings will be headlined by the first-ever opportunity to play the Super Mario Odyssey game, Mario’s upcoming sandbox-style adventure for the Nintendo Switch system, as well as other Nintendo Switch games. Additional activities at the annual show include a Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation announcing new details for Nintendo Switch games launching this year, the return of Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3, and tournaments for the ARMS and Splatoon 2 games live-streamed from the show floor.

“Our various E3 activities will showcase the next steps for Nintendo Switch, from a summer of social competitive gaming to a holiday season highlighted by a milestone Mario adventure,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “With Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3, fans at home can watch in-depth gameplay of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS games launching this year.”

Nintendo’s E3 activities kick off Tuesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. PT with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view live at http://e3.nintendo.com, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching in 2017.

Immediately following Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017, Nintendo is once again bringing back Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3, a live-streamed showcase of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Gameplay for all the featured games will be streamed from the E3 show floor June 13 to June 15 via http://e3.nintendo.com, as well as on Nintendo’s channels on YouTube and Twitch. In addition to gameplay, the livestream will include behind-the-scenes info and commentary from game developers and members of the Nintendo Treehouse.

When Nintendo’s booth space opens at noon on June 13, show attendees will be among some of the first people in the world to get their hands on Super Mario Odyssey, as well as other games for Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Odyssey is Mario’s first sandbox-style game since Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

In addition to all of these activities, Nintendo will also host game tournaments that will be live-streamed from the E3 show floor. The 2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational splats onto the scene on June 13 and features Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch. Composed of four pre-qualified squid squads from the U.S., Japan, Europe and Australia/New Zealand, the tournament will find teams participating in the first-ever international Splatoon 2 competition. The second tournament, the 2017 ARMS Open Invitational, takes place on June 14 and will feature Nintendo’s upcoming ARMS fighting game for Nintendo Switch.

Further details about Nintendo’s activities at E3, including information about the tournaments, will be shared closer to the event. For more information about Nintendo’s activities and
    announcements at E3 2017, visit http://e3.nintendo.com.

As expected Nintendo Spotlight will focus on games coming out in 2017 and it nice to see Nintendo push ARMS at E3.

This is literally exactly what I expected their E3 to look like, even the ARMS and Splatoon 2 tournaments. It makes a lot of sense to do that over just showing more of the games, because I feel like we know enough about them for before launch. (although we don't know much about Splatoon 2 at all) I kind of prefer the name "Nintendo Digital Event" but I assume it'll be the same thing.

So much salt on other places that the tweet didn't say 'focusing on 2017' games and assumed that only MariO would be talked about or something. Face Palm!

Unfortunately the timetable doesn't work out for me to watch this live but hopefully we'll get some good stuff beyond what we know~

xenoblade confirmed <- on that matter it's kinda odd how people seem to insist that Xeno 2 will be delayed to 2018 when there's not really anything to suggest that (if anything one of the devs for it had tweeted how excited they were for June i.e. E3)

^ Yeah I'm really confused about that. The game has probably had plenty of development time and I'm sure they've been working hard to get it out asap on Switch. Xenoblade X released over 2 years ago and I may be wrong but I remember them mentioning having started development on it before that game released. It's completely possible for it to release this year.

The mention of ARMS and Splatoon 2 kind of irks me since we just got a direct on them. Though I wouldn't mind hearing more about Odyssey and any first party 2018 titles.

On the subject of the name change, could this mean the presentation be going in depth with games we know about rather than mass revelation of new games (or maybe a mix of both)? Because I'd rather Nintendo stay with the former.

^ Honestly that's the approach they've been taking for a few years now both with presentations like these and with Nintendo Directs, so it's really not that surprising if that's the route they take with this. I don't think the name really impacts that decision, they're more just changing it to fit in with what they've been doing for awhile now and probably plan to continue with this.

I think it's because of how huge most of the Xenoblade games have been as of late. Usually games of that size take a long time to develop & is probably why most people think it won't be out until next year (2018). Tbh it doesn't matter to me if Xenoblade 2 does release in 2017 really, since I'm still not sold on getting a Switch. Now if Pokemon Stars was confirmed to be releasing? Then that just might sway the tipping point a bit. Razz

PR Email wrote:REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo is bringing some incredible social, competitive tournaments to this year’s E3 video game trade show. Over the course of two days, fans around the world can watch online as both pros and amateurs compete for glory in the Splatoon 2 and ARMS games, which can only be experienced on the Nintendo Switch console. Fans can watch all the action at http://e3.nintendo.com, as well as on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

“Splatoon 2 and ARMS are games that lend themselves perfectly to tournaments, and E3 is an ideal venue to bring people together to compete,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “These friendly tournaments will highlight the fun, competitive nature of these games and the Nintendo Switch hardware for people at home and on the show floor.”

    2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational – Tuesday, June 13, Approximately 2:30 p.m. PT

For the first time ever, competitors from four different global regions will compete for world dominance in Splatoon 2. The four four-person teams – “Deadbeat” from the United States, “Dynameu” from Japan, “Rising Moon” from Europe and “Blue Ringed Octolings” from Australia/New Zealand – defeated their rivals in local tournaments that occurred in recent months.

During the show in Los Angeles, teams will battle in a round-robin Turf War tournament that will decide seeding for the next round. All teams will play one another and get a chance to scope out their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. In the next round, teams will battle in the game’s Ranked Battle modes. The semifinal stage will be a best-of-five battle, while the championship will be best-of-seven.

The winning team of the live-streamed tournament will win global bragging rights and will have their names engraved on a sweet Splatoon 2 trophy. Announcers for the Splatoon 2 tournament will be avid Splatoon player, Nintendo fan, athlete and broadcaster Jordan Kent, Ashley Esqueda of CNET and the Nintendo Treehouse’s Eric Smith.

To help kids and squids get the most out of all the tournament action, prior to E3 Nintendo will release video content highlighting the tactics, strategies and storylines behind competitive Splatoon play.

    2017 ARMS Open Invitational – Wednesday, June 14, Approximately 3:30 p.m. PT

This live-streamed ARMS competition will pit four expert competitive gamers from the fighting game community against E3 attendees who qualify during the event. E3 attendees can visit the Nintendo booth between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT on Wednesday, June 14, for a chance to win a spot in the finals. The top four competitors will be selected to face off against four pro competitive gamers.

The eight tournament participants will do battle until a champion emerges to win the coveted 2017 ARMS Open Invitational championship belt. Announcers for the tourney include Super Smash Bros. broadcasters D1 and VikkiKitty. The participating pro players are Alex Valle of Street Fighter fame; Kelsy Medeiros, aka SuperGirlKels, a professional Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player hailing from Canada; acclaimed Super Smash Bros. player Daniel “Tafokints” Lee; and French Super Smash Bros. player Marie-Laure “Kayane” Norindr, one of the world’s most decorated professional female fighting game players in history.

I'm excited to watch them both, and to hopefully be playing both pretty soon! I think it's really cool that those are the games they chose to host invitationals for this year, it should be fun.

The Nintendo Spotlight event will be 30 minutes.

    Source

With Pokken coming in September we pretty much know the Switch's 2017 lineup now so don't expect anything else outside of maybe 1 or 2 unknown games. Of course they could do the headline format again and Kingdom Battle could be a part of the Ubisoft press conference.

So apparently time has been cut even shorter and the Nintendo Spotlight presentation will only be 25 minutes. Thoughts?

I'm pretty disappointed if that's the case because it means there really won't be very many surprises here. Considering we already know their focus is on 2017 Nintendo Switch titles (with 2017 3DS games being in the Treehouse) it seems like the only new game announcements we'll be getting will probably be Mario + Rabbids and possibly one more big Switch reveal for early next year. Otherwise I expect to see the confirmed Super Mario Odyssey, as well as Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Xenoblade 2. And potentially some upcoming DLC details for ARMS and Breath of the Wild.

Still holding out hope that ARMS, Splatoon 2, Pokken and Breath of the Wild DLC are Treehouse only and that Kingdom Battle ends up being shown in the Ubisoft press conference. Super Mario Odyssey Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Smash Switch and Metroid/ Animal Crossing is what what I expect to be shown in the Spotlight event.
