Nintendo EAD working on another game? Empty Nintendo EAD working on another game?

Post by Luma Party Tue Jun 18, 2013 7:48 am

Apparently the development team may announce another game soon:

"Koichi Hayashida and Yoshiaki Koizumi have told Spanish publication El Pais that they can’t disclose their next project, but they should make an announcement soon. Koichi Hayashida said that the team is currently wrapped up in Super Mario 3D World and was asked whether or not they were planning to release downloadable content for the forthcoming Wii U game. Hayashida said quite clearly that it’s not something they are looking to do at the moment. Here’s what they both had to say."
    Q. Some believe that the downloadable content is back to pay for something, is this title, as the current Wii U, will have this option?
KH. For now we have no plans in that direction.
    Q. What is your next job?
KH: At the moment, Super Mario 3D World, 100%.
YK: I can not disclose now, but soon we will make an announcement.

I'm assuming that means a new 3D Mario game, as the team that made 3D Land, Galaxy, etc. has only really made 3D Mario games...the other one being a better Mario game like Galaxy, or maybe a remake considering they'd be making it alongside 3D World.

Or, I guess it could be a sequel to DK Jungle Beat. Or something totally new.

    Probably.
Also, thanks for creating a separate topic on this.
Don't know why I didn't do this myself...

They could be doing Majora's Mask remake for Nintendo 3DS since they worked on the Ocarina of Time remake for the 3DS and the port of the Four Swords.

However I think ED Tokyo 1 is working on the 3D Mario that shows off the full power of the Wii U.

Since they have not made a 3D Mario since Galaxy 1.

ED Tokyo 2 made Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World.

^ They also made Super Mario Sunshine, and it's really weird that they made Galaxy 2 but not the first one. Razz

But you're right...there's too many Zelda remakes, but I can see multiple more of them being made. Of course the Majora's Mask remake was rumored to be made when some stores had it on their list of upcoming games. Miyamoto also said he thought he should've done more with Zelda II, so there might be a remake of that.

If they're going to do a Zelda game, they should make a new one instead of remakes. Face Palm! There's way too many of them.

In a GameInformer interview Shigeru Miyamoto talked about going back to single player focus 3D Mario game and talks about a possible return to the Galaxy series?

Gameinformer wrote:Can we touch on Mario briefly? Super Mario 3D World is a successor to 3D Land. What was it about 3D Land that was a good model for Wii U now?

SM: I think there may an impression that Mario 3D Land did well, so that's why we decided to bring that to Wii U. But, in fact, what we really try to do is look at, "What is the easiest way for people to play the Mario games?" And certainly we have the new Super Mario Bros. series, which is the new sidescrolling games, and those are particularly easy to play for people who are more novice gamers. You've got four-player multiplayer. And then we have games like the Galaxy series.

What we tried to do with Super Mario 3D Land, was try to create a Mario game that was set in a 3D world that fell somewhere between the openness of the Galaxy games and the sidescrolling of the new Super Mario Bros. games to create a 3D Mario game that a wider array of people could play. And we felt that, with Super Mario 3D Land, we managed to achieve that. So, what we wanted to do was extend that broader appealing 3D Mario game to Wii U in a way that allow more people to experience it. That's what we chose for Super Mario 3D World this time. But we still have, obviously, the Galaxy series, and there's a possibility that in the future we may look to explore what else we can do with the Galaxy series. For us, it was really about trying to find the right 3D Mario space in which we're going to allow the widest audience to play.

GI: The New Super Mario Bros. series emphasizes multiplayer and the new Mario 3D World on Wii U emphasizes multiplayer. Do you see multiplayer being a core part of the Mario franchise moving forward, or would you still consider doing a Mario game that was single-player only?

SM: Before there was the Super Mario Bros. series, there was just the Mario Bros. game, and that was a 2-player multiplayer game. So, even from those very early days, we always wanted to include some type of multiplayer. When the new Super Mario Bros. team on Wii was able to do that and include the four-player multiplayer in the side-scrolling fashion, we very quickly found that our team really liked that, and they immediately said, "Well, we want to do the same thing in a 3D Mario space." They've had a lot of fun exploring that. But definitely with the single-player Mario experience, there's still a lot of possibilities that we can explore, so I think we'll probably go back to that again at some point.

Could the team's next project be Super Mario Galaxy 3?
I know they said in the past that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was just left over ideas from Galaxy but, if Miyamoto is talking about a possible Galaxy 3 it makes it seem more likely.

Aw I was more expecting he would say something about another more open-world Mario game like 64 and Sunshine with a new gimmick that uses the Wii U gamepad in interesting ways. Not that they're experimenting with making another Mario Galaxy. Razz

I thought we were done with those games, I mean I like them yes, but I want something new...

    Face Palm!

They're good games but you really can't make a third one.
A Sunshine or 64-type game would be much better.
Or even a completely new game.

Ha I told you guys another Galaxy game was on the horizon. So if it happens: color me a happy camper.

Also not to sound rude, but we'll never see another game like Sunshine in our life times cause a lot of Mario fans just outright hated Sunshine.. So yea.. There's that. I could see a reboot on the 3DS just to make Nintendo some extra cash but I kinda doubt it.. Still with all things we'll see Nintendo has surprised me sometimes. xp

Nintendo does surprise us, but sometimes in disappointing ways, like Super Mario 3D World while I would've preferred something else...

Also about the main idea of this topic, if it's a remake it probably won't be Majora's Mask 3D, I'm thinking Sunshine 3D.

I'm good with a Super Mario Galaxy 3 since Galaxy 2 left some things out of the game and it could take some things from 3D World and the other 3D Mario games. Like having different levels for Mario, Luigi, Toad and maybe Peach and having levels based off of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

Keep in mind though that SM said there could still be a new 3D Mario game at some point.

Also I also think the next project will be a remake of Majora's Mask or Super Mario Sunshine though they should just make a new team for remakes of games.

Forming a new team for that would help other teams to focus on new games instead, but I think there would be way too many remakes if that happened. Razz

I think they shouldn't make a Majora's Mask reamke since you can already get the original on Wii Virtual Console for $10. I wouldn't pay $30 extra to see the game in 3D.
