by You know, what would make sense would be if they WERE developing an NX port and were also adding like 5 or 6 more characters and decided to launch those 3 Amiibo along with the Amiibo for the new NX characters. That's really the only reason I can think of that makes legitimate sense.

I think the final 3 Smash amiibo will be released on the same day as the rumored Smash NX port. If they do make anymore Smash amiibo for other possible characters they won't be released for quite a while since Nintendo really only likes putting out no more then 8 new amiibo per day.

Nice! It's cool to see some Amiibo being restocked, it makes sense for the holidays considering they have no major releases outside of Pokemon and the NES Classic Edition.

Nintendo sold 3.8 million amiibo in Q2 of 2016.
It makes sense that sales are down due to fewer amiibo coming out and it does not help that most of them where just different poses or recolors.

I'm not surprised, if they want to keep selling them like they did during the Smash Amiibo releases they're going to have to do something similar or make more interesting Amiibo. The new Mario ones should help a bit. I'm expecting more Splatoon Amiibo for the new game and probably more Smash ones if it gets a Switch port. I still haven't bought a single Amiibo.
