Today, Capcom announced that at its most recent investor meeting, its shareholders voted to end the company's takeover defense -- which means that Capcom could now be acquired if a company buys up large amounts of its stock.

I think Nintendo or some third party studio should buy most of the stock. Since the Monster Hunter games have been doing great on Nintendo systems and if a third party buys the stock Capcom's games can keep coming to all of the systems.

It's far more likely someone outside of the big three will take a shot at them. Software publishers seem to have a bit more financial muscle nowadays, take a look at Sega taking on Atlus. Nintendo Sony and Microsoft seem to operate on DLC exclusives or timed exclusives or at the very most a multiple exclusive game deal with a developer like Microsoft and Platinum's new game Scalebound.

Anyway from a business point of view does Capcom seem like good value at the moment? Their biggest draw Monster Hunter makes a huge amount of money in an ever decreasing Japanese market. They only have two huge global franchises in Resident Evil and Street Fighter, one of which is a hot mess and they don't know what to do with it. They took a huge gamble on Dragon's Dogma a couple years ago, while it didn't sink them it was far from a financial success. They're taking another huge risk on Deep Down, which could sink them.

Capcom have a lot of history, but at the moment that's kind of all they have. Just look at what they had to show at E3 this year. Dead Rising 3 DLC and port. An updated Monster Hunter 4, an updated Street Fighter IV and a port of Ace Attorney 1-3. Where are these new ideas that are going to attract new customers and potential buyers? I don't see them.

Also none of the big three are in a great financial position to buy something as big as Capcom.

^ That is true, but Capcom also has many IPs which they haven't made use of for awhile. (Mega Man, Viewtiful Joe, Breath of Fire, etc.) So any of the big three investing in them isn't really a bad idea. Sony shouldn't just because their entire company is in a terrible financial situation, but Nintendo has the money to, and already has a very good relationship with Capcom, so it would make sense.

Personally I'd like to see Nintendo acquire Capcom, but maybe nobody will, who knows. Razz

I highly doubt SEGA has the money to buy out Capcom considering how much the company is worth, but I guess they could do anything really. Razz
