'Zero' for my name. (which is the case for all games, not just Pokemon...) As for the rival it doesn't really matter.

^Well yea since rivals aren't usually in all Pokemon games & as of lately there hasn't been a Pokemon game where I could name a rival for quite some time though. <.<;

^ Yeah, I wonder why they removed the feature? I think it's pretty cool to be able to name your rival as well as your own character in the game. I guess they just didn't think there was a reason for it or something.

I name the playable character after me if I playing as the male trainer and the names Game Freak gives to the female trainers and the rivals are the ones I go with.

I randomly hit the letters, usually hit mostly consonants then add vowels in between those and it gives me some weird names sometimes.
