As we all know, Nintendo DS was never planned as a successor to the Game Boy Advance, but rather as a third pillar platform. Obviously, it was hugely successful and ended up actually becoming it's successor in the end due to this, but there was actually another handheld in development at the same time that was planned as a successor to the Game Boy Advance. (which was confirmed by Nintendo Source from like 2004 lol) What do you think the successor was supposed to be like? When would it have released if DS wasn't as successful?
I find it odd that they would just scrap the console altogether, and it almost makes me wonder if the idea behind their next handheld ended up becoming the 3DS when the time for a DS successor rolled around. Maybe it'd be a more powerful Game Boy that could do the same no-glasses 3D type thing as the 3DS. Otherwise I can't really think of anything, but obviously the original plan for the GBA's successor didn't go through.
