Why not both? I think including a Double Dash mode in MK8 would've been a great way to give fans an option to choose their favorite play style, and Double Dash is quite a few peoples' favorite Mario Kart title, so at least giving them the option couldn't hurt. (although personally I prefer one person per kart)

I prefer one-person Mario Kart. I enjoy characters alone with their own "specials" rather than a two person kart. If wheelies return in the next Mario Kart (Which probably will never happen), it would be really hard to control that, plus tricks. Remember, DD didn't have either of those. And TBH, the special item thing was a bit bogus, because why can't everyone use that item? It's like using a Koopa Shell with Toadette...

I never bought the system myself. There was a regular one that worked for at least 16 years before my cousin broke it and then there was a red one that did not last long.
