Well, one can't really have a thick or strong accent to oneself or the people they see locally. As to people in my area of course know I don't have an accent, but then people up north would say I have a light accent, in how I pronounce words.
But then when it comes to talking to people over seas it would become more strong, not in just how I would pronounce things, but the terms I would use for things too.
So overall we all would have a strong accent depending on who we're talking to. (Although, I'm not sure if the standard class American accident is all that powerful over here anymore unless we hear it in person, due to how much media we get of yours these days)
