My top 5 3DS games of 2016

Unlike it's a home console counterpart the 3DS had a pretty good year in 2016. Here are my top 5 games of 2016 for the system.

It's no doubt Hyrule Warriors Legends has issues such, as the bad framerate and the game not looking that while on the 3DS. With that said the new Wind Waker story, Linkle's story and characters where pretty good and the games DLC adds many more hours to an already large game.

As much as I wanted to play that game, I'm stuck with my original 3DS, and there's no way I was gonna play it with that. Still, the amount of new content they added to that game, especially including the DLC, is ridiculous. The original game was already huge, it's crazy they were even able to add that much more. I loved the Wii U version so I'm sure its spot here is well deserved.

You know it seems like Paper Jam was the most disliked Mario and Luigi for not being a Paper Mario game and due to Toads being everywhere. I thought the gameplay was very good though and the way Paper Mario was used in the puzzles was very unique. I also enjoyed how there where very few moments they held your hand and giant battles where finally removed.

I was a little worried about this game from people all getting a bit grumpy about the Paper Mario style, but it's definitely a Mario and Luigi game not a Paper Mario game. I still think it's a solid game in itself, had a bit of challenge if you can't get accustomed to having the three buttons to maintain instead of the two, and you can do really good combos if you can get good at it.

It was hard for me to rank my top 3 3DS game of the year due to how much fun I had with them. Even though all 3 version of Fates where great and got 60 hours of gameplay through all 3 versions there are still some issues I had. The game treats you like the bad guy for not picking Birthright, Revelations felt a bit tracked on and most of the DLC was not worth. With that said the level design was good, the soundtrack was great and the characters where pretty enjoyable with all the unique pairings you can mix and match.

I really liked fates, I had to otherwise I wouldn't have done that mess of all of Revelations supports. But I can agree with the way you see each game. Really the whole first map pack is almost all useless, aside from the three Awakening maps they're either all some enemy/item farming missions or just challenge maps. The second pack is at least a whole new multi-stage story.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are 2 more good games in the Pokemon series. Removing HM moves was long overdo, the Island challenge is a change from the the gym challenge, most of the the new Pokemon had good designs and the region was pretty good with it being 4 different islands. With that said there are a number of issues I had with the game. Festival Plaza is a garbage replacement for the quick online setup of Gen 6, most of the captains and Lillie felt like worse versions of characters we have seen in the past and a good number of Pokemon have a low chance of being found for some reason.

I feel like Planet Robobot was a game that want under the radar in 2016. The level design was nice, the power-ups where fun and the new characters where quite enjoyable. I'm really not sure why people always try to downplay the series for having to many games or being to easy when it's pretty much  Nintendo's 4th biggest series now.
