Ubisoft have just announced a new "JRPG-inspired" game, titled Child of Light.

Basically, it's a 2D platformer, but with turn-based battles. Not much has been announced just yet, but it does sound interesting, at least to me. (I thought Queen would be interested in this as well)

While no specific platforms for the game have been announced, it will be downloadable. I'm thinking Wii U eShop?

I read on Nintendo Life that this game is supposed to be a cross between FFVI and Portal or something of the like. Sounds interesting.. I just hope it remains interesting when the game is complete. Wink

    "2D platformer with turn-based battles".

Sounds like something SPM should'a been. lol

This game has intrigued me slightly.

The game is confirmed to be coming to Wii U, as well as other consoles. Very Happy

    There's also a new trailer:

It appears to be controlled with the touch screen, hopefully there's an option to use the analog sticks though. I'm looking forward to this game.

It looks like a cool game, so it might get it if it's a decent price.

Hmm I thought it looked like they took the idea from the Puppeteer game which is a game for the PS3; just with less 3D CG and more art style. (Though the story is a tad different of course lol)

    Puppeteer trailer:

Any who; I'll probably get this if it's cheap enough for the Wii U as well. ^^V

I think it looks much different than Puppeteer, but that's just me of course. And Puppeteer is strictly a platformer, right?

If it's under $20 I'll definitely buy this, I have enough money on my Wii U to do so. (although I also wanted Mighty Switch Force! 2)

EDIT: Apparently the blue light orb is some form of multiplayer which seems to make use of the Wii U gamepad.

    Patrick Pourde wrote:

I'm a father, and fairy tales are about parents telling their children stories that carry values. So one day our marketing director said, 'Why don't you make a game where you can play with your son?' and I was like, 'Ah! That's so true!'

...So I had the idea of what if we took the Super Mario Galaxy approach where you have a character that helps? What if he could move around on the screen and it's not a nuisance for the parent?

But the thing I felt was missing in Super Mario Galaxy was the second character is not really helping. You just collect coins. It's not a collaboration — you're more of a spectator.

...Watching sports with a child, when the team scores a goal then daddy's happy and the kid is happy, then we're giving each other high-fives. You should have those moments with games. It's good to share moments and it can be with a child or it can be with anybody.
I think that's way better than what I originally thought the blue orb would do. (I assumed it was the way you actually controlled the game in single player)

Apparently this game was influenced by Hayao Miyazaki's movies:

Patrick Plourde wrote:Miyazaki movies are a great reference for me because they primarily have female main characters, and at the same time, I feel they are loved by gamers. You can watch Iron Man and My Neighbor Totoro in the same weekend and it’s not considered weird. In fact, you would be considered a film aficionado. So why wouldn’t a gamer, somebody that likes games, be interested in playing different experiences? One type of experience doesn’t replace another, they complete each other. We will see if Child of Light will be well received, and I hope it will be, but in the end its success will be riding on the quality of the experience and not its subject matter.
I'm not sure I've ever watched one of Miyazaki's movies.
