ACNL auto-saves?

I just realized something...you have to manually save your progress in Animal Crossing: New Leaf right? But when you don't manually save, Resetti pops out and gets angry at you for not saving. But how does Resetti know that you didn't save if you didn't save?

Because the game automatically saves, do you wish you didn't have to worry about saving when you stop playing? I for one do, as multiple times I've accidentaly pressed the power button, or ejected the game card accidentaly.

I don't necessarily think it should be forced always on or not, maybe allow it to be chosen whether to or not, I haven't seen Resetti at all thankfully.

He must have something that goes off when you don't save the game. Also there only kind of auto saves since everything you do before you hint the off switch does not save.

I don't think that's true, because just pressing home and closing Animal Crossing would still activate Resetti...and if your batteries died, he'd still pop up when you start playing. So it does auto-save.
