First of all, I think it will be a Nintendo handheld. The PSVita has been out for almost 3 years now and has only sold like 7 million units so far. The 3DS has been out just a bit longer and has sold around 45 million. 
I feel like Sony will stop making handhelds because of the Vita's bad sales and the growing mobile market.
But for Nintendo, I'd think it would either be released at the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016. It would be hard to predict with Nintendo, so I won't really make a guess. Maybe the HDS or something. XD

I'd say that Nintendo might try Sony's route by trying their hand at mini umd discs. Who know maybe we'll even be able to play updated GC titles on it? Maybe a HDGCMini or something of the sort would be fine with me.

I think Sony will make there next handheld have better graphics and I think they might add 2 more analog sticks on the side. I think Nintendo will try to enter 4D gaming or just make an HDS. It's hard to say though since Nintendo and Sony can do something never done before for all we know.
