Here's some info on the story.

Go Nintendo wrote:Investigative Report from the Squid Research Lab. The protagonist, wearing the Hero Suit, travels through this underground world. The Octopus Army Corps, hoping to invade the Squid's world, built this underground facility. Is it just me that feels the Octopus' longing for the world above-ground from the blue sky projected onto those large monitors?

The story sounds cool but, it's hard to understand it unless you see it in the game.

^ Is that a Japanese translation? Because it seems worded a little weird. Still, the story should be moderately interesting, especially with those octopus dudes. XD

New info:

- 'Hero Suit' is worn by the protagonist in 'Hero Mode'
- this has a different feel from regular clothes
- it is designed to resemble a fire fly squid
- features glowing translucent lights
- cat is the referee who decides the winner of each match
- the mystery of why there is a cat in this universe is yet to be solved
- at one point, the Octopus Army Corps is hoping to invade the Squid's world via an underground facility
- battles happen in various places, including inner-city parks
- your main way of painting the ground in ink and attacking enemies is the Paint Gun
- the Charge Gun allows you to hit at a distance
- the Roller is useful in close-range combat
- use 'sub-weapons' by tapping the R-Button
- the 'Splash Bomb' explodes, shooting ink over the immediate area
- this can also be used for distracting enemies or exposing hidden ones

Controls:

ZL - Squid (dive into ink, restores ink)
L-stick - move
R-button - Bomb (uses 70% of your ink)
ZR - Ink Shot (uses up ink)
R-stick - looks left/right
X - Jump
Y - Camera Reset
Touch the Squid Icon to make a big jump to one of your team mates
Use gyro to aim.

Sounds good! I do find it strange that the single player campaign story mode is called 'Hero Mode' but I don't mind the name. The controls seems good, although I hope they're somewhat customizable for people who like that.

The only info that sounds bad is how the bomb uses 70% of your ink.

New info for multiplayer:

- while in squid form, Inklings can climb walls
- walls don't count toward the result of Turf Battles
- a painted wall might mean that someone climbed up it
- some inklings can jump like rockets
- this happens when they touched the icon of a team member on the map
- Inklings can move freely while inside their own ink
- when in enemy ink they move slower and can't become a squid

Now, what interests me is that it says some inklings can jump like rockets. Does that mean there's multiple types of inklings? And I didn't know walls didn't count toward turf battles. Interesting...

It seems like they're doing a "pic of the day" thing for Splatoon as well! Here's today's screenshot:



I guess it's showing off the Octobots. I do like their design even if they're kind of creepy.

Yeah I haven't really been posting the screenshots. But here's today's one:

This is a report from the Squid Research Lab. We’ve confirmed that the octopi fighters are using several different kinds of equipment. Their shields defend them from attacks, and they can wait in the ink for an ambush. They’ll use all kinds of tricks to get in the hero’s way.

It's cool that there's so many types, even if they share the name Octobots. I really like some of their designs.

We received a sketch from one of our researchers. A giant weapon, created by the Octopus Army Corps, awaits you deep inside their underground base. It appears to use the Battery Catfish as its power source. In order to rescue the poor thing[s] from this fate, you have no choice but to take down the weapon while withstanding its powerful attacks.

Battery Catfish? What? I think that's a pretty cool design though.

The new weapon seems cool. Though a Miiverse page should open for the game show more people can see the updates.

^ Yeah, that's what I think too. They used Miiverse for the Smash Bros. pic of the days, and these have been coming almost daily since they started too.

I guess this is the new results screen? It looks pretty cool, I do like the updates they've made to it. Although, where's that cat?

A Splatoon event will be held in Japan at the end of December/beginning of January!

- event will be held during the Game Party Japan 2015 on December 31st
- also being held January 1st in Tokyo
- game will be in playable form

I think that's pretty cool. I'm hoping for some new info on the game there too, but who knows. I also forgot to mention, Nintendo of America has opened an official Tumblr page for Splatoon screenshots, so we'll be getting the translated versions straight from Nintendo now! I do wonder why they don't just use Miiverse though.

There seems to be some new info coming in now with the screens. I'm hoping they don't show off TOO much.

I'm sure they will show most of the game in a Direct anyway. I just hope there's some different things you take down though and not just the octopus group.
