Sakamoto would love to make a new 2D Metroid if fan support is there

Coming from a Game Informer interview with series producer Yoshio Sakamoto...
“Through the development of Metroid: Samus Returns, I was able to really grasp the possibility and fun of a 2D Metroid. Like when I finished the first game, if there is another opportunity to make another Metroid, that is something that I would love to do. Of course, that really depends on how much people really want to buy a 2D Metroid.”

I'm sure it will depend on the sales of Samus Returns and having a new 2D Metroid would be better then a remake of Fusion next.

I'd support a 2D Metroid 100%. I also plan to support the series by getting the 3DS Metorid title when ever it releases. I'm sure other fans will too, even if they are kinda b*tchy about the whole paying $40 for the game & then turn around to pay $29.99 for the amiibo in order to unlock the 'harder' bit of the game hidden behind the amiibo wall. Personally I don't really want the ultra hard mode, but that's just me I suppose.

I would love to see it happen. If Samus Returns is successful I would honestly be shocked if they didn't start working on a brand new game, and ideas are probably going around somewhere within Nintendo. If Metroid Prime 4 is in development I don't see why a new 2D Metroid couldn't happen. This one honestly seems like a fairly new experience even if it is a reimagining.
