Mario Kart Tour

Surprise Nintendo next mobile game is Mario Kart Tour and it will be released by the end of March 2019.

Based on the title this make me think you will have to travel the world much like Pokemon Go and It will be a nice holdover until Mario Kart 9 comes out.

I can't imagine a mobile version of Mario Kart would be particularly great...obviously we'll have to wait and see, but I also haven't really been captured by any of Nintendo's other mobile games yet, even Fire Emblem which seems like it would work so well on mobile. I wonder if this will play like a standard Mario Kart game just with touch controls...

Mario Kart Tour will be released on September  25th.

Seems like they delayed the game a bit so that it just barley misses that Summer window. As for the  tracks them basing them off of real world locations for the new tracks is a new spin on them.
