It's not necessarily fulfilled...we've barely seen any gameplay footage, only like 10-15 seconds of it. :L It could turn out to be nothing like the Galaxy games in the end.

Unless the level design is all over the place then I'd say that the Super Mario Galaxy void would be filled either way since there're no plans for a Galaxy U game from what I've read online.

^ It might be that Sonic/Mario Racing game as mentioned by Gameguy before (like 2 weeks ago?) in which case Sonic would obviously not be the only playable character.

So much for this year.
Last month, Nintendo announced that it had struck a deal with SEGA to bring three upcoming Sonic games, including Sonic Lost World, exclusively to Nintendo platforms. Although it was rumored earlier this week that all three games would be launching this year, SEGA has confirmed to IGN Executive Editor Rich George that this isn’t the case. According to the publisher, the third Nintendo-exclusive Sonic game will not arrive in 2013.

Well then...it makes sense. The third game (which currently I'm thinking will be the Mario Kart crossover) will probably release in more like...March 2014. Or possibly later I guess, depends on what the game is of course. I would think Lost World would take the longest to work on, but perhaps not.

If the third game is a Mario and Sonic Kart late 2014 would be the best time because I don't think the game would do they great if they released it close to Mario Kart U.

But perhaps Mario Kart U IS the Mario and Sonic Racing game. I doubt they would make one if they were also making Mario Kart U a separate game. Then there would be two Sonic racing games and two Mario Kart games.
