This seems like a very good update, and I'm surprised it came so early. (I was expecting it to come during Summer) I'll likely download it tomorrow. Hopefully the Quick Start Menu improves the speed a bit, as it does take a little while. It's not unbearable currently, but it's still nice to get this.

A little while ago we learned that DS games were coming to the Wii U eShop. As of today the first DS game Brain Training is now up on the the Japanese Wii U eShop for free in Japan.

I think North America and Europe will get this on the eShop by the 10th.

^ Cool! I Hope we get Brain Age for free, I would never pay for that. Razz XD

And the Quick Start Menu works GREAT. It didn't seem to help much when it was shown in trailers, but actually trying it out for myself, I really like the changes. It's much faster than it was before.

That freaking update took forever. It reminded me of the good old days, ah the glorious PSN update. How I love you.

It didn't take all that long to download for me, despite having slow internet. Even if it did take awhile for you though, I think it's worth it in the end as it improves the speed quite a bit.

Recently, I've sometimes had a problem where I turn on the Wii U Gamepad and it says it can't connect to the Wii U, and that I should just turn off the Gamepad and try again. But when I do that, the Wii U's power button is still lit up, and the only way to fix it is to turn off the Wii U and try again. Anybody else had that happen? Or is it just me?

Yep I've had this happen to me too. Usually it's because you have the Wii U gamepad too far away form the Wii U console for it to be able to pick up where the gamepad was last located to where the Wii U console could pick it up. I usually just power down the Wii U after I've already powered down the Wii U gamepad.. Though sometimes it can get annoying. xp

^ The thing is, it says that despite the Gamepad being right next to the Wii U. I mean, how close does it have to be to connect to it? I never had the problem until recently, so I think it has to do with the Quick Start Menu update from a month ago.

Well usually for me I have to be in the same room about (at least) 8 steps away from where the Wii U gamepad is sitting compared to where the console itself is sitting. BUT I have to turn it on right in the same room, I can't turn it on in another room & expect the gamepad to to turn on & the Wii U to pick it up from inside any said room.

^ Usually I can turn it on from a completely different room. But recently, it sometimes won't even turn on when the Gamepad is literally inches away from the Wii U. So I have no idea why that is.

Try updating the Wii U again & see if doing that helps any. I have no idea what to do otherwise. ^^; Outside of calling Nintendo's customer hot-line about your problem.

Your Gamepad could have died since a blue light will come on if you have spotpass on.

Wii U firmware update 5.1.0 U is live.

Go Nintendo wrote:Version 5.1.0 U, available via an Internet connection, includes the following improvements:

    New Features:

Wii U to Wii U System Transfer
Users can now transfer (move) all software and data from one Wii U to another
A “System Transfer” option has been added within System Settings

    Changes to Nintendo eShop:

Users can now navigate the Nintendo eShop using a Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, or Classic Controller
Improvements to system stability and usability:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Thanks to all that sent this in!

    Link

I guess this is cool since people did not like using the Gamepad in the eShop for some reason.
