Virtual Reality Games

What do you think of virtual reality, or VR, games? They seem to be once again becoming popular as of late. The thing is, there has been no successful VR device (that I know of) as the technology always seems to be too advanced for the time, despite this having been around since, when, the early 90's? It seems nobody can get it right.

Although I do think it would be kind of cool to have some headset thing to make me feel like I'm in the game (like Oculus Rift) it just seems like it's a gimmick that would wear off within days. Does it really add anything meaningful to the experience? Maybe a bit, but it's not such a big deal where it would become a complete revolution, or even just something successful.

It seems like Facebook will start having VRG soon since they bought Oculus Rift. With that said I won't try them since I don't use Facebook.

I wouldn't get a game solely for it being associated with VR, but if the game was interesting then I'd head for it, in other words I don't really care so much for VR.

It sounds like a nice idea, but I'd have to try it out before I could evaluate it, really.

Nintendo tried VR first & it failed miserably. What makes game dev's think that anything's changed since then? Personally I'm just waiting for it to epic fail really. xD

^ Because it was nearly 20 years ago, I think the technology is way better for it now. I'm not saying modern VR is perfect (I of course haven't used Oculus Rift or anything) but I don't think it would fail the way that the Virtual Boy did is all. But who knows what could happen.

Yea, maybe. But I think that: if anything the next big thing should be holodeck technology & for the game dev's to stop with the nonsense of pushing VR on us already. <.<

Update to this topic: (lol) According to google; virtual reality could be coming around for gaming some time in the year 2015 (or so). With Playstation & it's project Morpheus VR headset, the Oculus Rift, & Nintendo patenting their own VR 'name' it'll only be a short amount of time before VR becomes a reality.

With VR slowly looming over us for the year 2015; I had to think about if I'm going to partake in VR. And I've decided I'm not. I've never been one for VR games. That & with my having claustrophobia; there's no way I'd willingly play a VR game anyway.

I'm hoping that it'll be interesting enough at least to make leaps & bounds in gaming. Just not enough for all console makers to create VR helmets for all consoles. D:

^ Yeah, and what I'm hoping for is that some companies will use VR in a way that's not just immersing yourself in a game more by putting on a helmet. Obviously, most big companies are going to do that. Although, if anyone were to try something different, it'd probably be Nintendo. "Virtual Reality" doesn't necessarily translate to "immersive helmets." I don't really have any ideas for other forms it could take though. I'm also not really interested in trying out Oculus Rift or similar types of VR games though.

Well Nintendo could make the game virtual in that you can actually interact with things [or NPC's] in the game. They're doing that already anyway so might as well keep at is my thought.

Yeah I'm interested in a final product allowing multiple different styles of using it, it's what people create for it that I wanna see, if they can make a whole world where you can look around or be an animal and fly through the air using it that's something I'd want to try.
