    Sakurai has revealed through an interview that Takamaru was originally planned as a playable character in Smash 4, but was removed due to lack of fan familiarity. Source

    This kind of sucks, Takamaru would've been an interesting character.

    Let's be real here he was never going to be playable after Greninja and all the new sword characters where added. I also think it was between him and Duck Hunt for the retro spot.

    ^ Probably because Greninja is a ninja, they would likely share a few moves, like the shuriken and a few others. I mean obviously Pokemon has nothing to do with Takamaru, but they would definitely have some similarities in their movesets.

    I don't think I have ever heard of Takamaru until Super Smash Bros. I don't know if he could have been an interesting character for Smash but his assist trophy shows he could have been a cool fighter. I might try his game if I could.

    I actually love all the sword fighters so another one would have been nice to have. He was planned then removed but I see him having a huge chance of being in a future Smash Bros, Little Mac proved it's possible.

    Luma, they basically have the same or very simmilar moves in video gaming.
    Still I'd prefer Takamaru over various fillers like Duck Hunt Dog or too many Mario characters.

    They're very similar, and Takamaru's moves and weapons from his original game are basically the same. I'm not saying he'd be a complete clone of a Pokemon, obviously not, but their movesets would be at least pretty similar. Still, it would be cool if he were playable.

    I think there could have been much better characters added instead of Duck Hunt, like Lucas or Popo and Nana. This is a personal opinion though, so I respect yours.

    Well, I thought that the reason Chrom wasn't added to SSB4 was because they didn't want to have another Sword yielder, So it makes sense that Takamaru was not added.
