In Luigi's Mansion the Toads only saved your game but now they are with Luigi so they do play a bigger role.

I doubt they'll be giving advice in this game as I do recall Miyamoto mentioning that Toad and the rest of his buddies will be giving a helping hand to Luigi in some puzzle oriented goal.
I just hope it isn't some escort like mini-game to help the frightened Toads out of the mansion (though knowing Nintendo, they might just do that -.-). Nintendo has already portrayed the Toads to being "too weak" in the recent games...I really hope they instead give the Toads a chance to rise up to being heroes as they were portrayed in the NSMB games. Toad and co deserve more than being simple generic units in the games.
Come on Toad! Bring your macho back from SMB2 and Wario's Woods. XD

The graphics still look the original Luigi's Mansion, but nonetheless, the game itself looks really good so far. I can't wait to try it.
