Star Fox Zero Empty Star Fox Zero

Post by Winters Thief Zero Tue Jun 10, 2014 1:55 pm

Star Fox is in development for Wii U, but no footage has been shown yet. (other than a single photo of Miyamoto playing it that I won't post, since it barely shows anything) This is what Time Magazine has to say about it though:

In his new version of Star Fox — still fundamentally a spaceship-based shooter — players now use the GamePad's motion controls to aim and fire the Arwing's weapons, simultaneously controlling the nimble craft itself by thumbing the joysticks to accelerate or turn and pull off signature moves like barrel rolls, loops and the tactically essential Immelman turn. And you can still morph your Arwing into a land tank, rocketing down to the surface of a planet, then rattling around the battlefield and laying waste to the landscape.

Sounds awesome! I like Star Fox 64, so if this one is better than I'll likely buy it when it releases. (probably 2015, that's my guess)

It's about time Star Fox made a comeback and since Miyamoto said that the game would be ready in a year I expect it to release in late 2015.

This game deserves its revival and I hope they bring something to make it worth the experience.

Yeah, Star Fox did deserve a revival. I just hope it plays like Star Fox/64, as that's what most people want. Personally I don't mind the Adventures/Assault style gameplay though.

Apparently Star Fox Wii U was originally meant to be on the original Wii, so that's why it's been so long!

It sounds like Project Guard and Giant Robot will actually just be a part of Star Fox Wii U, at least according to something Miyamoto said in an interview:

Today, I'm only answering questions about the Star Fox games. But, there will be multiple different kinds of missions in the Star Fox games, so maybe something like that (Project Giant Robot, Project Guard)could appear. And I think the robot that came down from the helicopter is the same robot that you were shooting in the security game.

I think that would be better than selling them on their own, and they do kind of seem like something you'd see as a mission in Star Fox if you really think about it.

That would be cool if Fox used the Giant Robot in some ground missions. I also think it's a great idea to mix those 2 games into Star Fox U.

Here is news from an interview with Miyamoto:
"More Star Fox Wii U details were divulged during the recent interview iJustine did with the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. It’s been confirmed that the Wii U GamePad will feature a cockpit view while the television screen will display the traditional third person view. Mr Miyamoto also revealed that his favourite character in Star Fox is the one and only, Fox McCloud.

Reconfirms that it will be out before Zelda.
Miyamoto says that he is working on and playing the new Star Fox every day and jokes that his hands hurt as a result.
IMO this is this is pretty big news since this confirms that he (and Nintendo for that matter as opposed to an outside company) are working on it directly.
Describes the basic gameplay: Cinematic (3rd person) view on the big screen, cockpit view on the gamepad. You are meant to split between the two while you are playing.
This sounds like the behind closed doors E3 2014 demo.
In response to a His favorite Star Fox character is fox (he jokes that his eyebrows make him look like a Fox).
Re-tells the anecdote about the shrine near him (with Torii gates that inspired the gameplay on the first Star Fox) that has a fox as the patron spirit.
He confirms that it will have Amiibo support.
It is implied that it will be something on the level of the minor support in Mario Kart (this is partly my speculation)."

It's nice to hear some news on the game. I honestly didn't expect it to have Amiibo support as I have no idea how it could work for the game, Fox Amiibo is guaranteed to be supported. I did not know that Miyamoto's favorite character is Fox, interesting.

Cool, I believe they already confirmed the cockpit view on the Wii U Gamepad at E3, but it's nice to get the reconfirmation as it seems like a really cool idea. As for Amiibo support, maybe you'd get upgrades to your Arwing by using them? Or possibly just being able to play as the character's Amiibo, as it wouldn't really change much other than visually playing as a different character. (unless the ground missions are back of course)

I still think some third party is helping. I feel like the cockpit will work like the minecart levels in Captain Toad where the game gives you a better view on the gamepad. I think the amiibo's will just give the Arwings a different look based on the character you scan in.

^ I don't know, you'd think there would be, but from the sounds of that interview, it almost seems like they're only working on it at Nintendo. Maybe that's just me though. I'd love it if Platinum or even Bandai Namco were helping out with the game.

    Miyamoto has more to say:

"I like to create gameplay mechanics more than I do stories. The story might not be too different from past “Star Fox” games, but the gameplay mechanics are going to feel very different because of the two-screen system of the Wii U with the GamePad and TV screen. It’ll make for a very fun and unique way to play."

I don't really care if the story is all that exciting, as long as they implement it well. I saw someone the other day with the idea to have cutscenes show up on the Gamepad occasionally as you continue playing on the TV, which would be really cool in my opinion.

Coming from the latest Game Informer issue, you can use both motion and traditional controls. You can also seamlessly transform into a tank.

    Star Fox Zero Unnamed%2823%29

That's good, because I don't think I would've wanted to use motion controls. (I guess it depends on how well they work though) I guess the tank will be like Star Fox 64?
