Nintendo - New Nintendo 3DS Empty New Nintendo 3DS

    Post by Gameguy1996 Fri Aug 29, 2014 9:11 am

A new model for the Nintendo 3DS called New Nintendo 3DS is coming to Japan soon.

    http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/new/index.html

This seems like a really cool system and it cool how that C stick was added. Though it does suck how it seems to be getting games that you can only play on that system and not the normal 3DS.

    New features:

    3D viewing from any angle
Amiibo support on the touch screen
    Micro SD Card support
    Double the RAM
    Much more powerful CPU
    Extra Mini Slide Pad
    ZL/ZR Buttons
    Custom Face Plates
MUCH faster downloads and web browser (more than 5 times faster it seems)
Brightness automatically changes depending on the light where you are (can be manually changed too)
    Improved camera

Nintendo - New Nintendo 3DS Empty Re: New Nintendo 3DS

Have they not learned from the Sega CD or the X32? Or even their own mistake with the N64 expansion pack? What about the Atari Jaguar CD? The 3DS has a solid install base right now with no real competition, Nintendo are absolutely crazy trying to segregate that market. Mid gen upgrades or peripherals that require their own software have a terrible history of flopping and fading into obscurity. Hell, even the 3DS already has an official peripheral that this new 3DS uses as a selling point that came out not that long ago. How permanent is this thing really?

Also it has a terrible terrible name. Given the history of the NSMB series and New Yoshi's Island Nintendo seem to have an awful grasp of what is actually new.

I don't see a problem with it. At least its not like the XL which was released mere months after the original model or the 2DS which, honestly, was stupid considering you can turn the 3D off with parental controls (and it doesn't close? lol)

This NEW model looks incredibly promising though, as in I really like the design and supposed features. You can't really compare this to other gimmicky system add-ons like the 32X because:

    1) Both the Sega CD and 32X were released at a time when the Genesis was at the end of its life cycle. It was also pretty annoying that you HAD to have the Genesis in order to play the CD, and HAD to have the CD to play 32X games. It was also revealed that Sega was planning on releasing a stand-alone 32X system (the Neptune, never released because of the 32X's low popularity) AND the Sega Saturn which would be their next gen console. Because of economic issues and bad release times, the CD and 32X failed (but ultimately gained a cult following, I actually had a CD growing up and still do!)

    2) The Jaguar CD wasn't popular because the Jag itself wasn't popular to begin with. It's not like the CD/32X's instances where it used a popular system (Genesis) for its support. Atari at this time was dead and everybody knew it. That's why the Jag in general failed.

    3) The N64 Expansion Pak was only used for two games iirc: Ocarina of Time and Donkey Kong 64, two of the most critically acclaimed of all times.

So when you compare those instances to this new 3DS model, they seem highly insignificant. Not only is Nintendo the leader of milking systems, but they do a good job at promoting them. The 3DS is still really popular. People still want handheld gaming. As long as Nintendo has a monopoly over that market (cuz let's face it, the Vita? LOL) consumers will gobble these releases up. Heck, I'm just sold by looking at the design.

Wha?...It's not that I don't like it, I think it looks like the definitive model and the extra features are pretty cool. But I wasn't expecting this at all, and yet it makes so much sense. A built in Amiibo sensor, extra slide pad (although it looks way too small...) ZL/ZR, and a few other improvements. As long as the price would be somewhere around the same price as the XL, I'm just fine with this. Except the name, why that name? Seriously? I love Nintendo and I will gladly buy this new 3DS, but have they not learned from Wii U and the original 3DS?

EDIT: The New Nintendo 3DS will also allow you to view 3D even when tilting the handheld! I knew Nintendo would do this! It was one of my new Nintendo handheld predictions. That'll make 3D way better.

I admit, I really like the look of the new Nintendo 3DS. Makes me glad that they're bringing back a revamped version of the original model (I really am not a fan of the 2DS nor the 3DS XL - especially the latter with hinge issues being reintroduced as a threat to the system).

The addition of an extra slide pad and Amiibo compatibility are very welcoming additions indeed personally.

Idk, I've never been a big fan of moving around the camera myself. Just as long as the camera works fine & doesn't frick up any perspective I've always been good with what ever camera angle I can get in game.

I mean yea the design looks nice & it's good to know the camera is better then the one currently in the current 3DS but fact is that this new 3DS has been announced for Japan & not for any of the other states.. So until I hear of an official release for the new 3DS outside of Japan I'll resolve my critique of this new 'thing' until it's been officially announced this winter for Christmas cause let's face it we all know it's coming. xp

I wonder if it's coming to other regions.
I would not buy it myself.
It's juts just like the DSi of this generation.

Guys, Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America already confirmed it's coming 2015 to Europe and NA. Razz Source

    @Luma
I agree it's like the DSi of this generation, but it really does seem like a pretty big improvement over the "old" 3DS, in my opinion. If it's really going to be the same price as the current models, I'm definitely thinking about getting it. (assuming I have enough money at release)

    @Queen
Well, if the C-Stick were the only new addition I know I wouldn't be interested either, I never really used that much either. I think the 3D viewing from any angle is what interests me the most, because I actually really love the 3D on the original model, so being able to move it and still see the 3D is pretty awesome. Of course, there's other things too, that's just what I like most about it.

I really like how 3D feature can be used now while tilting.
Anyways, this looks like a very nice upgrade to the 3DS. I just hope Nintendo doesn't release too much stuff exclusive to this, though. (Probably won't happen in my personal opinion)

I would love to see Nintendo improve the quality of the 3D aspect overall. It's not like I get eyestrains or headaches on a 3D TV.

^ I've heard some people complain about that too, so perhaps they'll find a way to do that. I've NEVER gotten headaches or eyestrain while using my 3DS' 3D though.

Just so everyone knows, the New 3DS will be region-locked. So don't be trying to import one from Japan to get it early, you can't play the games. Razz

You can still buy the games on the eShop if you import one from Japan.

That would be the Nintendo that didn't want to completely s*** on its fans.
