[RUMOR] NX OS is Android-Based

Rumor has it that Nintendo's NX platform has an android-based OS.

When third-parties dropped the Wii U, it caused a turning point inside of the company. Nintendo seems to be ready to embrace a more open platform, which creates flexibility and ensures that the same content can also be played on smartphones and tables.

This is according to an inside source from Nikkei from an interview with Iwata about NX.

Now, if this is true, I'm not sure what to think. It would likely mean NX would be the fusion console, and their only similarities would be OS. Now it could be that they're going for an Ouya styled platform, but that's a terrible direction if true. I don't want to get too worried though, as it could easily be a heavily modified android OS.

One good thing about this would mean at least it would have backward compatibility with Wii U (and Wii?) most likely.

I've seen this rumor already on another Nintendo forum I browse. XD I for one am not worried; & even if it is an android base OS; Nintendo would modify the heck out of it anyway (is how I feel).

If it is, then they need to completely, 95% revamp it.

I'm sure it will changed up knowing  Nintendo.

I mean, they have to modify it at least to some extent, or it wouldn't work as a dedicated Nintendo platform OS. I'm sure it'll be heavily modified if this rumor is true.

As it turns out, Nintendo has confirmed NX is not Android-based, or at least that this rumor is false. (I guess they could still end up using Android but it looks highly unlikely as of now)

There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX.
