First Video Game Hall of Fame!

The project to find influential games that deserved to be in the Hall of Fame was begun in February by The Strong - a US museum of play.

Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Pac-Man, and World of Warcraft were also chosen to feature in an exhibit of iconic games.

Angry Birds and Minecraft were nominated but did not make the final list.

The museum invited people to nominate games played on PCs, consoles, hand-held gadgets, phones or in arcades.

Wow, this is actually pretty cool! It makes sense that the games chosen are part of it, although I feel like there should be a few others. There's so many games out there that have made a huge impact, so only including like 3 or 4 isn't really showing enough. There should be around 8-10. Still, this is interesting and shows that people do consider video games art.

Interesting. I've heard of this before but I was wondering what would be inducted into there. Nice that those two got in. I'm glad there's a Hall of Fame for video games.

The Legend of Zelda was nominated I believe. I hope that does get in. I don't think it's as big as the others on the list but hopefully a special mention at the least.

I'm glad select games will now have something that the new genration can look back at and see how much games have changed over the years.

I think it's a good list, but I can see what you mean about Zelda. If I had to choose, I'd probably swap out World of Warcraft for it - but maybe that's just because I've never really cared for that game.

One thing I am glad about is that Minecraft, which was nominated, didn't get in. I'm a big fan of that game - but, really, the point of these "Hall of Fame" lists is to recognise games that have left behind a strong, enduring legacy. We don't yet know what Minecraft's legacy will be because it's still too new.
