Well for RPGs, I'd definitely recommend Bravely Default, and Fire Emblem Awakening is also an amazing strategy RPG if we're including those. I know there's quite a few others but I really haven't had the chance to play them myself either. I also always recommend Kid Icarus: Uprising and Kirby: Triple Deluxe, just because I feel they're underrated. Kid Icarus has a bit of an odd control setup but if you can get used to it, it's a great third person shooter/action game. If you ever get Kirby, the beginning is a bit slow, but after the first few levels it just explodes with creative level designs and it's really fun to play through.
I mean, if you've ever owned a Nintendo console there's always the obvious Mario, Zelda, etc. games but I feel I don't really need to mention them. If you like Mario and Zelda, you'll like the games on 3DS. (if it's your first Nintendo console A Link Between Worlds is AMAZING and you should also play some classic Mario and Zelda titles available on the eShop if you have the time/money to spend)
SirFrozenFairy mentioned some great ones as well. :3
