    ARMS Empty ARMS

    Post by Gameguy1996 Fri Jan 13, 2017 12:42 am

The next new IP from Nintendo was shown at the Switch Presentation and it's titled ARMS.

This game does look pretty fun and I hope it does while. With that said I feel like fans will take this as the Punch Out replacement.

This looked super cool! It looks like a really fun new game, and I think it has potential to become another Splatoon-like game. (definitely won't be as popular but I can see it having that somewhat broad multiplayer appeal and it's another straight up fun multiplayer game like Splatoon) I'm excited to see more of what it'll be like.

Wow, I really like how this game looks. Interesting concept, it has certainly gotten my attention. Also as much as I love Punch Out!!, I don't really see this as a replacement. This is a game I'm definitely willing to try.

My husband Jing said that this looked like 'Overwatch Splatoon boxing'. xD I kind of agree with him tbh. Personally fighting games have never been my thing, though this does look interesting at the very least.

It has been confirmed that ARMS can be played without motion control.

This is really interesting because it seemed like they were building the game around using the Joy-Cons. I'll probably still be using them with the motion control when I play the game because to me it seems natural. (unless it works better with button controls of course)

Eh, I'd only try the game just to see how it plays myself. I'm one who'd try it with joycon controllers though.

If it's anything like Splatoon then I imagine Arms would play much better/easier with motion controls.

They likely added the regular controls for the more hardcore fans. I'm also in thew boat that thinks the motion controls would work better though.

    @Polar
Speaking of, the vibe I've been getting from this game is very Splatoon-like. I know I mentioned it in the OP, but I really do feel like it's another multiplayer game like that which could really catch on. I do wonder if this game exists partially because of Splatoon, being that it was the first AAA Nintendo IP in awhile, and it was so incredibly successful and is getting a sequel.

    Here's some more details.

The following info comes from Nintendo's Kosuke Yabuki...
    - more characters than are currently revealed
    - some stages of destructible elements
    - special attacks can be guarded
    - special gauge fills up as you punch or get hit

    Source

I can see 5 more characters being playable for a total of 10 and it's nice to know that there will be stages that mix things up.

    Here's some more details.

The following comes from a Splatoon 2 dev interview in Famitsu, as translated by NE...
    - initially choose from three arms in the final version of the game
    - this will change later on
    - the devs can't say whether you obtain new arms by defeating enemies, but likes the idea
    - Nintendo will make sure to polish game balance as much as possible
    - the devs also want to adjust it together with players in the long term
    - various modes with different types of gameplay aside from 1v1 matches
    - all modes can be played online
    - there is mode that can be played casually online and is there to make sure players can be matched with other players who have a similar skill level
    - the devs need a little more time to finish the game

    Source

Every mode being online is great news since, I don't really have anyone to play the game with and I'm guessing each character will have at least 4 sets of different Arms.

Yeah I agree, I'm so happy you can play every mode online. I think the fact that online servers now use a subscription service is making Nintendo put online play in mind for the new games a bit more than they normally would have in the past.

ARMS will be released on June 16th. You can also play as the new character Min Min and enjoy a 2 on 2 mode.

Min Min looks fun to play as and I'm glad up to 4 players can play at once.

The 2 on 2 battle announcement was unexpected and awesome, I'm excited to try it out. MinMin also looks like a fun character. I will say I expected more to be shown in the Direct but it does look like fun.
