What I use Mallow for now:
Attacking with him really is useless. So I tend to use his turn has ether:
1) An intro attack with the thunder, it may be weak but it cuts damage off of all enemies.
2)Healing/Defending; Mallow masters this the best, have him defend so that he only takes about 1 HP a turn, that way it saves him for the time you need to use an item or heal a team member.
So I can see why people may not like his style of playing, the game taught you him wrong, as it gave it to you without no introduction of the special moves or gaurding, ect... but it still works out well.
To have that extra turn just to control things on your side a it more is really great to me.[code]
