Nintendo - Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - Page 39 Empty Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

    Here's the recap.

PR email wrote:8th April, 2014 – A new Nintendo Direct video revealed numerous details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. At the start of the video, series creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is planned for this summer, with the Wii U version targeting winter 2014. Both games will be available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for their respective platform. Sakurai also detailed many of the stages and items in both versions, described the games’ online functionality, revealed a new mode exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version and announced fan-favourite Greninja, a Pokémon from the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, as a new playable character.

To view the Nintendo Direct in its entirety, visit http://nintendo.co.uk/nintendodirect. Today’s announcements included:

Launch windows: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is planned for this summer. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is targeting winter 2014.

Silky smooth 3D: Most gameplay elements of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will run at 60 frames per second, all in stereoscopic 3D.

“Smash Run”: Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is a new mode called “Smash Run.” In this mode, four players have five minutes to enter a dungeon and explore the surroundings, fight enemies and obtain power-ups to enhance their fighters. Once the five minutes are up, all four fighters enter a battle arena using their newly equipped items and power-ups. Enemies encountered in the Smash Run mode are from a wide range of game series. Multiple Nintendo 3DS systems and games are required for multiplayer modes.
New challenger!: Greninja, the awesome final evolution of Froakie from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, joins the roster as a playable character inSuper Smash Bros. for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Oldies But Goodies: Many of the classic characters from past Super Smash Bros. games that are returning in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have new powers and abilities. Four characters that have appeared in previous games, but had yet to be announced before this Nintendo Direct, include:

Zero Suit Samus: That’s right, Zero Suit Samus is back, but this time she is her own fully playable character, separate from suited Samus. In the new game, she is given jet boots to make her even more powerful.

Sheik: As with Zero Suit Samus, Sheik is another character that appeared in previous Super Smash Bros. games, but will be a unique playable character for the first time in the new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Sheik has new moves like Burst Grenade and Bouncing Fish.

Yoshi: In previous games, Yoshi stood on two legs and hunched over, as if Mario was going to jump on top of him at any moment. This new version of Yoshi stands completely upright, making him an even stronger fighter.

Charizard: After appearing from a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros. Melee and becoming playable by using Pokémon Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this fire-breathing Pokémon is now a selectable character.

Online play: Both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. will offer online multiplayer gameplay with other players on the same platform. Players with broadband Internet access can battle it out with anyone else who is online and also has the game.

When playing with random players online, two modes are available: “For Fun” and “For Glory.” In “For Glory,” only Final Destination stage variations are available. There are no platforms, elevated areas or items in this mode. It is a nice, clean battle between characters. In “For Fun,” all stages are picked randomly and all items and power-ups are available.

When playing with friends, full customisation is available – players can set the rules, stages and items however they want.

Variety of stages: While the cast of playable characters is the same in both versions of the new games, the stages where the battles take place are vastly different, depending on which system a player chooses. The Wii U stages are primarily based on past home console games, while the Nintendo 3DS stages draw from handheld games for inspiration.
Boss characters, such as the Yellow Devil in Wily Castle will make appearances in some stages. When bosses appear, fighters will have to battle the boss, as well as one another. The boss can even be used in strategic ways to damage other fighters.

Almost all the stages in both versions of the game will have a “Final Destination form,” an alternate form of each stage that is inspired by the relatively simple layout of the much-loved Final Destination stage.

Items, Trophies and Pokémon: Items, Assist Trophies and Poké Balls all return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. New to the games are Master Balls, special Poké Balls that contain Legendary Pokémon like Arceus and Xerneas.

Get connected: There will be elements in Super Smash Bros. that link both versions of the games. More details about this will be revealed at a later date.

Custom moves: In a series first, players can now customise move sets when playing locally or online with friends. More information about this feature will be announced in the future.

For even more new information about Super Smash Bros., visit http://www.smashbros.com/en-uk/ and the brand new https://www.facebook.com/smashbros.

I liked most of the info in the Direct. However I would have rather have seen a different newcomer then Greninja and it sucks that the Wii U Version is not coming until Winter.

That was way more than I expected honestly. Smash Run seems like a really cool mode, definitely makes me want the 3DS version. (but I was already planning to get it) Summer release for the 3DS version is nice since I can play it more. I'm usually traveling a lot in July and August, so if it releases sometime then, that'll be good. I can wait for the Wii U version, it's just really weird that they're releasing at different times.

Charizard is cool, but why Greninja? Really? We don't need so many Pokemon. But there was a hint Palutena will be in the game since Pit's final smash was changed.

    Greninja?
Maybe that means no Jigglypuff (Please no Jiggglypuff!).

That was way more than I expected.
Though, the late Wii U release is a risk.
It could be a commercial success or a complete fail....

^ Watch him be replaced by Wigglytuff. XD But he's one of the original 12 so I doubt they'll remove him. He'll likely be the 5th and final Pokemon character in the game, who hasn't been revealed yet for some reason.

Releasing the Wii U version later is a risk, but I can see why they did it. It was probably to avoid confusion that they are just different versions of the same game, when in reality they are completely different games. That or they just needed more time for the Wii U version. But I think way more people will get the 3DS version because it's cheaper, releases sooner, more people own a 3DS, and Smash Run. We'll know all of the characters half a year before the Wii U version even releases, though.

I think Greninja likely means no Mewtwo since Jigglypuff is one of the original 12. Also does anyone think that Greninja trailer was hinting a 5 players since Mario, Link, Kirby, Samus and Olimar looked like they were getting ready to fight Charizard like he was a boss.

Here are the character pics and Greninja's trailer.

I like Zero Suit Samus' last Wii U screenshot with the bunny ears lol. That brings the roster up to 29 characters. I'm guessing there will be around 45 characters, 50 max but I doubt there will be that many.

Also no official pic of the day, but with that many screens, there was no reason to have one. XD I just hope he doesn't stop doing it since he revealed so much in the Direct.

Here are 2 videos showing 410 new screens in all. Many new items, returning items, a better look at some stages and tons of Poke Ball Pokemon can be seen in them.

Also here's the Greninja Analysis by GameXplain.

I think the pic of the day will just go over all of the new items Greninja's moves and all of the other returning things we saw in the Direct and screens until E3.

Well that's a ton of screenshots, I doubt I'll ever look at them all. XD

So with the unexpected character reveal in that Direct, does anyone think we'll get any other unexpected characters? It would be hard to say what specific characters since they'd be unexpected though. Razz I'd be surprised to see a retro character like Lip become playable.

It's kind of weird though since they're the same person. But then again, we've seen Samus along with another Samus in Metroid Fusion before, so it's nothing totally new. Razz

I'm guessing the pic of day updates will be nothing new for the next few days since we just had that huge Direct.

I don't think we will see anything that new in the daily pics until June. We may get 3 more returning characters before then though.

Here's the pic of the day.

Sakurai wrote:Pic of the day. Your character starts a Smash Run as a relatively ordinary fighter. Sakurai want over Smash Run in the Direct but, it's nice to know that he took part of the idea from Kid Icarus: Uprising.  Laughing

Items that power you up early, is that like the function of stickers in Subspace, because if it is that'd still be fairly useful during certain moments.

^ I'm guessing it'll be like in Kid Icarus: Uprising where you'd use different weapons and items that could be switched out before starting a stage. Unless he meant something different, but that's all I remember from being able to power yourself up "early" in that game, at least.
