Not a fan of Skyrim at all, or really WRPGs in general, but I can definitely see why you'd put it on your list, especially considering how much you seem to play it, based on your signature. But 400 hours?! Damn.

400 hours in 5 months is pretty good. I only played the game for a few minutes before when I was at my dad's place.

I don't know why I expected different responses. I suppose that means I'm one of the few I know who loves non-asian RPGs.

Radiant Historia
(I'll post the boxart later, I'm tired)
I don't know what to say about this game. I got it a few months ago, had heard really great things about it, and liked it from the beginning. The graphics are neat, very nice sprites, and the combination of 3D and pixels works pretty well. The soundtrack is really nice, even though some tracks are used a lot. The gameplay is fun for a JRPG, I like the grid used in combat and the strategy involved. I found the story really engaging and interesting, it felt fresh and new compared to other JRPGs I've played. The theme helped too. The characters were neat too, though I felt like some of them deserved a bit more development (and one certain character badly needed more availability).
Overall, it's a great JRPG, which manages to be very JRPG-ish while not being too similar to the typical game.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
I actually nearly bought Radiant Historia when I found it used at a game store a couple years ago, but ended up getting another game instead. I believe it was some Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game...so I really should've gone with my original choice. :p But I haven't played it. Nice to see it so high on the list though.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
I've been lazy with updating, I have so little free time every other week, and the little I have I usually spend playing games. I'm too tired to write anything good, okay.
Anyway, it's time for number 3.
Anyway, it's time for number 3.
- #3:
Fire Emblem: Genealogy for the Holy War
I'm a Shouzou Kaga fan, and I feel no shame.
It wasn't easy to choose one Fire Emblem game to put on this list, trust me. I was about to pick either Shadow Dragon, Path of Radiance or Thracia 776, but in the end Genealogy of the Holy War won. Won the Holy War, I guess. Where to start on why I love this game?
First off, the story. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end, it felt more focused on politics and the consequences of the heroes' actions than other Fire Emblem games, which I loved. I prefer the Jugdral games' more mature feel over the more recent FE games, which feel too childish to be taken seriously (not all of them though). The first half was my favourite, due to how different it was from the standard FE game, but the second half felt better gameplay-wise.
Second, the characters. Many of them are somewhat bland, which doesn't bother me much. They actually felt more interesting than the cast in most of the other FE games in my option, mostly due to the game's setting. Also, I dig their designs.
Thirdly, the gameplay. It included several mechanics that aren't found anywhere else in the series, which makes the game feel different to play. Home castles, no trading, repairs, canto, children, personal skills and so on, they all made the game special (although some of them are featured in later games). Some of the maps are ridiculously huge and long to play, which I do like. It felt more like actual battles rather than small skirmishes.
Fourthly, the soundtrack is amazing. The map themes are very fitting, and so is the event music. Overall, it has my second favourite soundtrack in the series right after Shadow Dragon.
In the end, I love this game and I can't explain why it's so awesome with words.
Wow, this is objectively the worst thing I ever have written.

I wish I could play those Japanese only Fire Emblem games legitimately, it kind of sucks they never translated them. Maybe they could do VC re-releases for them like they did with Earthbound Beginnings? I'd love to play Genealogy of the Holy War. Sounds like you really loved it.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
I doubt that will ever happen, but I wish it would. Though they'd probably change the dialogue a lot, which would ruin a lot of the game for me. But considering the growing popularity of Fire Emblem, maybe it isn't such an impossibility after all.Winters Thief Zero wrote:I wish I could play those Japanese only Fire Emblem games legitimately, it kind of sucks they never translated them. Anyway, time for number 2, which isn't predictable at all. And sadly, I couldn't describe it in a way it deserves.
- #2:
Chrono Trigger
Whoop, who could have expected that? While I don't talk about this game much, I love it. I just really love it. I was first introduced to the game in early 2013, when one of my RPG-loving cousins was playing the game. I watched him play it for a while, and downloaded the game for the Wii not long after. Love at first frame, I think some call it.
I can praise this game for hours. It's Chrono Trigger, what more needs to be said? Amazing story, beautiful graphics, the most epic RPG soundtrack ever, time travel handled well, no random encounters, memorable cast, replayablility, that SNES-era JRPG-charm, fun gameplay mechanics, I could go on. I love this game to pixels. I barely even have any complains about it.
Short story even shorter; I love this game. It's a timeless masterpiece.

- I friggen LOVE Chrono Trigger so hard, that I know of a rumored endings it was supposed to have in the Japanese version (which I know know isn't true). Still, it's interesting to see it's your number #2.

Gah I've just never played like any of these games. But yeah I've heard so many amazing things about Chrono Trigger, so I'm not completely surprised to see it in your list. Pretty sure I know what #1 is though lol.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
Sorry it took so long to update, I have little free time these days and I'd prefer to spend as much as possible of it on playing video games. And, I don't think it's much of a secret what my favourite RPG, and game, of all time is. At least for the moment.
Maybe I'll make another top 10 list soon, I have a few ideas in mind. Or maybe I'll do something else.
- The great, grand, amazing #1:
Xenoblade Chronicles
You all saw this coming. It's not like it's on my profile or anything.
But I love this game so much and I can't even begin to describe how much in words. I've spent 200+ hours in the game, on my first save file alone. That's even more than in Skyrim. It should speak for itself.
Xenoblade is sinply amazing. It's story-driven and linear, but at the same time it feels somewhat like a wide-open sandbox. A linear wide-open sandbox. The story can only continue in one way, but you're almost always free to go
and do sidequests, grind against enemies, enjoy the scenery, anything you want, really. Which I really love. Whenever I'm free to go wherever I want in video games, I tend to lose track of the main story, but not in Xenoblade. It was always relevant, even when doing sidequests.
The story itself is one of the best I've ever seen in an RPG. While it got a bit stale towards the end, it was more than enough for me all the time. Few games have made me feel as many feelings as Xenoblade did (no pun intended), and that's purely a good thing.
The playable characters are not the most unique, but likeable. The excellent English voice acting helped them too, and so did their personalities. To be fair I'm not a fan of the designs - most of them are way too fanservicey or dumb for my tastes (especially different armor sets), but I can live with that. Personally, I like to praise the interactions between characters. It makes them feel more human and interesting, and is something I love with RPGs.
The soundtrack is amazing, and simply amazing. Seriously, it's the best I've ever heard, and fits the game so well.
The graphics are lacking, to say the least. I can stand them, but that's all. But what is impressive is that the environments look gorgeous despite the limited graphics. All outdoor areas as well as a few indoor areas are just so beautiful and awesome it's a pleasure to simply run in circles while admiring the scenery. The whole word is a masterpiece in the game.
The sidequests aren't the most interesting, but a few of them stand out for different reason. But they add a lot of hours of gameplay, which isn't bad.
I will say one thing, and it's; "I love this game."
But I feel like I could have written even more about how much I love this game. I hope I at least managed to make it clear that I love this game.
Maybe I'll make another top 10 list soon, I have a few ideas in mind. Or maybe I'll do something else.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
Yep called it. But we all knew it'd be #1 so it's not like it's a surprise. Xenoblade Chronicles is a fantastic game. I probably wouldn't call it my favorite RPG of all time, but it does a lot of things right. (pretty interesting plot and great battle system, I love using the monado) Also the characters are pretty cool.
Although I never finished it.

Re: Meta-Knight's Top 10 RPGs
Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the best RPG's I ever played and it's nice to know that it's you favorite RPG. I did kind of wish that a select boss near the end of the game had a better week point though.
