Wii U

So with Kimishima having said there are many unannounced major 3DS games in the works, yet not confirming anything for Wii U, what do you guys think is on the way for the rest of the year? Are they just waiting for NX to release anything big?

Personally I definitely think there's more on the way for Wii U past Pokken and Star Fox Zero, but probably nothing big. At this point I think Zelda will be a dual release for NX. It'll still come to Wii U, but since it's not exclusive it doesn't really count as another major game. I do however think there are still 2 more, being Pikmin 4, which I still think will be a Wii U game given that there's already an engine for Pikmin on the console which would be easier to make a sequel on than NX, and Paper Mario, which has been all but confirmed. (Paper Mario might end up as a dual release on NX as well though, I'm not really sure, we could be seeing another Super Paper Mario situation as well)

I think Pikmin 4 will get an NX port if it does end up on the Wii U and Paper Mario Wii U would make sense since I don't think Rogers would have left social media if the rumor is fake. I also feel like Nintendo will come out with a rushed Mario Golf game.

Idk, I'm half tempted to think that nothing else but a choice few games will really release to the Wii U since I half imagine some game might be reserved for NX release since it is being shown most likely at E3 some time this summer. Still, I'm sure there's going to be another Mii sports thing or maybe even a half baked Mario & Sonic at the Olympics game to release & then everything else will get duel release to the NX by next year is what I'd estimate.

It look like Japan is getting a new Splatoon bundle on July 7th.

This is great for everyone who is still looking for a Wii U since the system is kind of hard to get in Japan.

Awesome! You're right about the Japanese stock issues, and considering Splatoon is pretty much the only reason to get a Wii U at this point it makes sense to bundle that. Getting the Callie and Marie Amiibo as a bonus is pretty nice too!

This has not yet been confirmed, but rumor has it that the final date European retailers can order brand new Wii U stock is October 1st.

This would be very strange, even if NX is right around the corner and Wii U is all but dead, you'd think they'd continue shipping to retailers for the holidays to at least get even just a very small amount of new consoles sold.

They gotta make that last minute push to try to sell as many Wii U consoles as they can. If anything my guess is they need the money to start advertising for the NX.

I'm pretty sure retailers have plenty of Wii U systems still. It's also a bit sad how Color Splash will be the last retail Wii U game from Nintendo since the NX version of Breath of the Wild is sure to be better.

So it seems as though Wii U is finally being officially discontinued, as according to Eurogamer, production for Wii U is ending this week. According to these sources, Friday will be the final day for new Wii U production. After that, all that will be left will be the Wii U units stocked after their production on Friday.

Although this was inevitable given the Switch's release being so soon and Wii U being fairly unsuccessful, it's still sad to see it go after being around for so long.

It makes sense since, there are so many unsold Wii U's in stores still that anyone who wants one still should have no trouble getting it for Christmas.

Well turns out that rumor was false, as Nintendo has come out and said the following:

There is no change to our continuing [Wii U] production. Even though the Nintendo Switch is slated to go on sale, production is scheduled to continue

So nevermind!

I don't see why they should discontinue it until next year at least. It likely won't sell anymore units but it doesn't hurt to try, right? They can't really win either way unfortunately. Too bad about the Wii U, it will be sad to see it go when the time comes.

It turns out the Wii U will be ending production soon.
