    The mega stones are a new item in Pokemon X and Y that evolve your Pokemon in battle if there holding the stone of there name.
    I have the Blastoisenite, Blazikenite, Gengarite, Lucarionite and Ampharosite right now and got them all for talking to people munus Blazikenite. I also heard they you can't find most of the stones until the post game and you can only find most of them between 8pm and 9PM.

    Only one, which I believe was automatically given. I don't remember which one it was though honestly...
