It looks like we know what all of those updates do now and there's a big update in October.

The Nintendo 3DS Firmware Update version 9.0.0-20U is available now!

Users can now use themes to customize the design and sounds of the HOME Menu
Five themes are pre-installed and additional themes can be purchased from the Theme Shop
Themes can be changed by using settings located within the HOME Menu settings
A feature has been added that allows users to capture screenshots of their HOME Menu
The Nintendo eShop Title Information page has been updated to provide easier access to any available videos, demos, user reviews, and other information
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

We already knew this update was coming, I didn't expect it so early in October though! I'm glad there are 5 preinstalled themes, I really don't want to pay for them...still, this is a nice update.

The only bad thing is I can't update it as usual. It usually takes me like 5 tries on 3DS updates. >_>

The 5 preinstalled ones are just plain Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink and Blue backrounds.

Here are the themes that are $1.99.

NES: Jumping Mario
Spotlight: Mario
Spotlight: Luigi
Spotlight: Peach
Spotlight: Yoshi
Mighty Mushrooms
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: Two Worlds
Hanafuda
Mario: Wood-Burned Characters
Mario: Felt-Stamped Characters

And here are the themes for $0.99

Checkerboard: Black and White
Stripes: Black and White
Polka Dots: Black and White
Polka Dots: Gold and White
Stars: Gold and Black

I'm just going to stay with the red theme for now since I think there will be an option to get a download code for some of the themes soon since there's an Enter Download Code option in the the theme shop. What theme is everyone going with though?

I'm just using the Plain Blue one, I'm not going to pay $2 just for a theme. I love that Link Between Worlds one, but I'd rather use $2 on an eShop game than on just a home menu theme. They're kind of overpriced for what they are.

I'm using the black one, I think if I just keep saving some leftover money from buying things then I may reach the two dollar limit to buy a theme, but I'm not going out of my way to get one.

I'm using the yellow theme, though I wish that I could use a purple theme. D: I think once the Skyward Sword theme releases I'll most likely buy it. But for now I don't really like how any of the theme's look, even the LBW's one. xp

I kind if wish I could make my own background & menu theme; that would be awesome.

Before I update it, can you keep the old basic one?

^ Yeah, you can keep the default theme. If you change it and want the old normal theme back, just choose "no theme" from the theme change menu.

They added the theme you wanted Queen but, it's only for Japan right now.



It's cool how all of those characters are on it.

A Pikmin short puzzle has been added.



I think this is a cool idea but, I likely won't get my piece until a few days later.

Of course. >.> Ah well I can wait for it to release here & if not I just won't be buying a theme any time soon. XD

I might end up getting the Pikmin Shorts piece at the airport. XD

^ Oh yeah, those. I feel like they are kind of overpriced, I'm sure a lot of work was put into them, but $5 for those?...just me though, I think everything is overpriced. XD

Anybody else think there's too few 3DS games releasing next year? From what we know about, the only first party games releasing next year are Codename S.T.E.A.M. and Majora's Mask 3D, and there's a few other third party games like MH4U. I'm hoping that since those are Spring games, there are a few more announced later that release in the Summer, Fall, and Winter.
