It's nice to see more of Hero Mode and the transfer device likely takes you to a different part of the level.

That's cool. I still love the old guy, he's very strange-looking and could be an interesting character.

So the commander can clone her self and maybe you can also get that outfit for the female Inkling after you beat story mode.

Yeah, that would be cool if you could unlock the outfit after beating them. It's interesting that she can clone herself, but I've seen that in a few games now.

While this game is starting to interest me, I've got a few questions.

Can you use the GamePad at all as a controller?
How do you aim the stuff you shoot?

    I'm really confused...

Yeah, the game is pretty much built around using the Gamepad. You use the Gamepad's gyrosensor to aim your shot. You can still use other controllers, but I believe you have to use the right stick if so. (the developers said it works much better with the gyrosensor)

And, do you have to look at the TV while using the GamePad?

Woah, how did my post get posted?! O_o I did not post it yet, I wasn't finished...that's really weird...

Anyway, I believe you have to look at the TV while aiming, because the Gamepad has the map, which you need in order to do the squid jump to another teammate. But I wouldn't worry about that, the people who played it said it felt very intuitive.

And here I thought you'd never be interested in Splatoon. XD I'm glad you are at least a bit. ^^ (we need a lot of people to support new IPs from Nintendo...Mario and Pokemon are all well and good, but it's refreshing to see something new and creative)

We did not get a good luck at the Gamepad yet since Nintendo Treehouse was pointing the camera at the TV the whole time.

Well, I mean, Mario Maker's retail release still hasn't been confirmed, and so far the Wii U line-up doesn't go past 2-3 games for me this year.
Maybe they could work Inkling playable, and a Splatoon stage in Smash Wii U as free DLC for buying this?
I don't know, just seems interesting.

I'm still confused as to how the game works, and what the point of it is.

^ Hm...let me try to explain it the best I can. For single player it's basically a 3D platformer with shooting elements. As for the multiplayer mode, you are split into 2 teams of 4. Your goal is to spread as much of your Inkling team's ink color onto the map as possible. There's a lot of strategy involved in how to get as much of your color onto the map as you can. You can turn into a squid to swim through ink of your own color, allowing you to climb up walls, and access otherwise blocked areas. You can use this to hide in ink as well, go faster, etc. You also have 3 weapons, your main weapon, sub weapon, and special weapon. The main one can of course be used as much as you want, and is your main way to spread ink across the map. But the special weapon has to be charged up throughout the match, and looks like a lot of fun to use imo. You can shoot other Inklings as well disabling their ability to do anything for 10 seconds or so, which can help you spread more ink. But you could also not shoot anyone and use other strategies, there seems to be a LOT of ways you can use. There's also the map on the Gamepad, and you can tap the icon for one of your teammates to jump directly to them.

So that's the core of it, but of course it's still a couple months before release, I'm sure there's a LOT they haven't revealed yet.

    Two more questions.
Is the local multiplayer the same as online multiplayer?
And, how many people can play local multiplayer at a time?

^ They haven't given many details on the local multiplayer, however, they have stated that there will be local play. I'm almost certain it will have to be at least somewhat different though, because the Gamepad is such an integral part of the game.

Here's the pic for today along with a gameplay clip.

This is the ".52 Gallon" weapon. This is a shot-based weapon that uses a lot of ink to form a powerful shot. This means, however, that it has a slow firing rate, so you will need to aim precisely in order to get the most out of this gun.

I called the more powerful ink gun a few days ago and the gameplay looks nice.
