GameCube Controller Can Be Used on Most Wii U Titles

Nintendo has confirmed you'll be able to use the GameCube controller (with the adapter) on ANY Wii U title that has Wii U Pro Controller support! Yes! I hoped the GCN controller would be compatible with other Wii U games, but I honesty didn't expect this. That's great. Now I'm considering buying an adapter.

And, this makes it even more likely to have GCN games on Virtual Console.

That's cool I guess though I don't think there's a way to buy a new Gamecube controller with the adapter outside of the Smash bundle at this time. Also we likely won't see Gamecube VC until 2016 at this point.

Well, that's really fortunate, now I don't have to buy a pro controller.

Well, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that what they said previously was a mistake. :/

The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is compatible with Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U specifically - it is not compatible with any other Wii U software. The adapter is also not compatible with Wii and we apologise for any confusion.

Yeah it is very disappointing.

I think they mean that Super Smash Bros for Wii U will be the only game that supports the controller from day one and other games will patch it in like Mario Kart 8 at a later date.

I'm hoping other games get patched to be able to use the Gamecube controller; cause if not unless GC VC games are released there wouldn't be much of a reason to get the GC adapter anyway (impo).

^ That's probably why you currently can't buy it separately, it's only in the bundle with Smash Bros. 4 Wii U. I assume they'll start to sell it separately when other games make use of it.

Man, that's a bummer if the GameCube Controllers are exclusive to just Smash Bros.. Of course, I'm grateful that we're getting such an option too as I, like many others, have gotten used to playing Smash on the GameCube controller since Melee. The controller just felt...perfect in a way. Gotta love the amazing joystick as well! 

It would be neat to have it being compatible with other titles like MK8, Donkey Kong: TF, SM3DW, Captain Toad, and so on, though that's really up to Nintendo themselves. Still, sure is thrilling to know that we're seeing the return of the GameCube controllers for Smash.

^ Well, you could always try using one of those third-party GameCube-styled pro-controllers if you want to try it out for other games, although it won't really be the same. :/ I have a feeling Nintendo will patch in support for some of their other titles that have used GCN controllers on the original Wii in the past. (like Mario Kart 8)
