Nintendo - DeNA Partnership Empty Nintendo - DeNA Partnership

Post by Luma Party Tue Mar 17, 2015 11:35 am

Nintendo has partnered up with DeNA to create new games for mobile devices and PC.
They will not port games, just create new ones.

Nintendo has also bought a 10% stake in DeNA, and DeNA have bought a 1.24% stake in Nintendo.

They also confirmed they're working on the "NX" a new "dedicated" console.
They said in Fall 2015, a new membership program through DeNA and Nintendo will replace Club Nintendo.

DeNA also now has the license to publish any Nintendo IP on Mobile Devices.

I really hope they don't go too far.
I don't want to see Mario or Link becoming the King of the App Store.

This is the worst news I've heard all day. Crying or Very sad

I'm glad they're considering mobile devices, but I'd rather them only develop new titles for their game consoles, and the last time they gave free use of Nintendo IPs to another company...well, we all know how that went. Razz

    ^Wait, what company was that?

The worst part to me was Club Nintendo is getting replaced by some DeNA membership program...

^ Philips of course. Remember all the great titles that came of that, classics like Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, Hotel Mario, some of my favorites. Razz

Yeah that does kind of suck, I wonder how it'll work though.

At least DeNA will likely help make an account system. I also don't think any of Nintendo's in house teams will make games for mobile unless they create a few new ones for just mobile games.

Zero I know how much you loved those. Razz
But that was a different situation when Nintendo had to ditch Sony.

I'm not sure how to feel. I don't care for mobile games, that's why I use my 3DS. Though it would be alright if they just used mobile to spread the word of Nintendo's series like Animal Crossing and Mario. I don't know this worries me, I don't want the 3DS, Wii U and future systems to suffer from having less focus but I don't know if that will be the case.

This is the first time I've heard of DeNA.

I'm not sure how to feel about this either. I knew they'd enter the smartphone game business eventually, but I expected it to be in a few more years at least. I hope it at least doesn't affect their main consoles much. I don't care much about smarthphone games.

^ Well, Iwata explained it as not replacing their current business ventures with consoles, but just adding the smartphone titles from DeNA in addition to that to move people towards buying dedicated Nintendo consoles for a fuller experience.

The way I feel is that Nintendo had to make the move to mobile smart phone devices anyway. Most companies like M$ and other developers are already making games on smartphones it was only a matter of time before Nintendo decided to create games for phones too. It's just all part of the way things are heading.

Nintendo - DeNA Partnership Empty Re: Nintendo - DeNA Partnership

    Post by Gameguy1996 Thu Mar 19, 2015 9:59 pm

Here's more info from the Q and A.

Coming from a Q&A featuring Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata and DeNA's CEO Isao Moriyasu...

    - each company will have to rely on their good strengths
    - Nintendo will make the games and DeNA will handle the back end
    - Nintendo is always adjusting, which is why they made the move for mobile
    - DeNA says the mobile game business is only getting larger and larger
    - he believes partnering with Nintendo will make the industry even bigger
    - there is no relationship between DeNA and the Nintendo NX
    - Nintendo is not going to give up making games for dedicated Nintendo platforms
    - Wii U/3DS will all connect somehow through Nintendo's new membership program
    - interactivity between dedicated Nintendo consoles and smart phones was hinted at
    - Nintendo says multiple mobile companies approached Nintendo about similar deals
    - Nintendo says DeNA has a "passion" that impressed the company
    - "DeNA attacked Nintendo with a passion, so we were impressed by them."

    Link

Those details make me feel better about the mobile games and I like how Nintendo is working with an not so known mobile studio.

It's nice to hear them easing fears of people who think they're "going mobile" or "going third-party" considering they're not at all. Yet there's still comments like that all over the internet. Razz

I wonder how the new membership program will work. If Wii U and 3DS will connect through it as well, NX might end up being a third-pillar platform, like the DS was originally supposed to be.

I'm glad there taking it slow with the smart phone games. Though it's not great news that some of there key workers being moved to the mobile platform if that rumor is true.

The first mobile game announcement is coming soon.

DeNA CEO wrote:“Soon, we should be able to announce the game,” said Asako. “I can’t say too much about the Nintendo deal,” said Asako. “But it’s a really exciting initiative.”

I guess we will see the game in the next direct or at the investor meeting on the 28th. This is also the first time I'm hearing about what phones the game is coming out for.
